.September 4: Cuban Dance Party at Monroe Hall

In what’s being called “Dancing for the Stars,” Santa Rosa’s Monroe Hall this Saturday hosts a benefit to raise funds for the Elsie Allen drama department, selected from a pool of 2,000 other schools, to attend the world-class Edinburgh Fringe Festival. And what better way to send kids to Scotland . . . than by hosting a Cuban dance party? Presented by former city attorney Brien Farrell, ArtStart coordinator Marlene Ballaine and artists Mario and Liz Uribe, among others, and with live music by Batacha and Cuban food from the historic hall’s kitchen, the evening even hints at local city and county officials out on the dance floor gyrating to Latin rhythms—loosened, likely, by mojitos from the no-host bar. It’s a hot night of undulating bodies for a good cause on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Monroe Hall. 1400 W. College Ave., Santa Rosa. Lessons 7pm; dancing ’til 11pm. $25. 707.539.5507.
