Aug 25: Magnum P.I. Party at Red Car Tasting Room

Posted By on Wed, Aug 22, 2012 at 11:52 AM

Calling all Tom Selleck look-alikes. Or Magnum, P.I. diehards. Or people who like wine and pizza. Red Car Winery is inviting you to its Magnum P.I. Party. Red Car was founded in 2000 with 50 cases of Syrah, and today, the winery has added Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rosé to its repertoire. The tasting room is a nod to a romantic time in L.A. history when electric trolleys were zipping about, but also has a hipster element—in a good way. The place has a record player and an old couch, which are the makings for a good shindig. If you have an especially good mustache, you certainly shouldn’t miss out—the best mustached attendee wins a free Red Car Magnum. Get it? Magnum? Come investigate on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Red Car Tasting Room. 8400 Graton Road, Sebastopol. Free for wine club members, $20 for public. 2pm. 707.829.8500.

June 9-10: Novato Festival of Arts, Wine, and Music at Grant Avenue in Novato

Posted By on Thu, Jun 7, 2012 at 11:42 AM

Novato. Land of abandoned airport hangars and ’80s suburban sprawl . . . or so it would seem. Long inhabited by the Coast Miwok, Novato was settled by whites via Mexican land grant issued in 1839—and soon after, with what this writer considers the most photogenic oak-to-grassland ratio in California on surrounding hillsides, the Novato Festival of Arts, Wine and Music attracted a crowd exactly 116 percent larger than the population of the city. Beer. Wine. Food. Music. You know the drill. Get your summer on with headliners Chuck Prophet, Cold Blood and others on Saturday and Sunday, June 9–10, in downtown Novato. Grant Avenue between Redwood Boulevard and Seventh Street. 10am–7pm. $5. 415.897.1164.

March 3: Krug's 187th Birthday Bash at Charles Krug Winery

Posted By on Wed, Feb 29, 2012 at 2:40 PM

An adult birthday party can range from a “crazy night = painful morning” situation to a “refusal to acknowledge that the earth actually did complete its orbit, which means I’m older” affair. What happened to the simplicity of the kid’s party, where there’s cake and a performing clown? This weekend at Charles Krug Winery, the owners celebrate the 187th birthday of its founder, Charles Krug, in a very, um, intimate way. After a three-course meal with fine wines, the celebration takes an otherworldly turn as spirit medium Leanne Thomas attempts to contact Krug himself to wish him happy birthday in the afterlife. That’s right—dinner and a medium. Join Charles and other birthday guests on Saturday, March 3, at Charles Krug Winery. 2800 Main St.,St. Helena. 6pm. $100. 707.967.2200.
