This girl looks all to happy to be standing next to a gigantic pile of destroyed, water-logged textbooks! All we know is that this photo was taken at Monte Rio School by Carl Van Dyke.

The girl? No clue. Where she is now? Haven't the foggiest. If you recognize her, or know where she is now, let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. The Guerneville Flood Project: Rick and Diana Hearn

floodrickanddianahearn.jpg
Just a simple post-flood portrait of a family that had to figure things out in the aftermath.

The writing on the back of this photo says "Rick & Diana Hearn, their 3 sons & a family friend."Surely, Rick and Diana would have some stories about the flood - if they're still around. Does anyone know who they are? Where they might be now?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. The Guerneville Flood Project: Helicopter Rescue in the River

Posted By on Sat, Feb 12, 2011 at 8:54 AM

floodhelicopterrescue.jpg
Not only were helicopters the only way out of town during the flood, they were also the best way to rescue people from their rooftops, their hillside property and . . . from the middle of the Russian River?!This picture might not actually be as dramatic as it seems at first glance. A stray caption stuck to the inside of the file folder mentions helicopter-rescue training runs. In other words, the person bobbing along in the fast-moving water at the bottom might be a volunteer fireman instead of a resident in imminent danger.

Or is it? Does anyone remember helicopter rescue training during the flood? Or could this photo be a legitimate rescue?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. The Guerneville Flood Project: Thank God We're Alive

Posted By on Sat, Feb 12, 2011 at 8:43 AM

floodthankgod.jpg
One time I was showing some visitors around the Russian River area, and they asked why so many houses were elevated and built over ground-floor garages. The river really doesn't look too imposing in the summertime, does it?You gotta love signs like this on the outside of people's houses—it reminds us of the house near the on-ramp in Cotati that used to put residents' birthday notices in the window. The caption tells us this house is in Riens Beach—does anyone know whose house it was? Or if it's still there?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. floodstretcher.jpg
A crew of able-bodied firefighters help pull a woman to safety in the aftermath of the flood. Strangely, it looks like the sun is shining! We can't for the life of us even guess where this is, and certainly not who the firefighters are. Do you know?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. The Guerneville Flood Project: The Weirdest Man in Guerneville

Posted By on Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 8:42 PM

floodpitchforkguy.jpg
It's a tall order, we know. To be the weirdest man in all of Guerneville? You've got to be pretty weird.

And yet this guy might just take the cake. I mean just look at his silly disguise mask. Also, who needs a pitchfork when it's flooding? The piece de resistance, of course, is the thing he's holding in his right hand. It's a... um... a...Throw in the initials "MM" on his sweatshirt and yep, it's the weirdest man in Guerneville. Does anyone know him? Could it be Sheik Vaselino, by chance?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. With gravel and mud still scattered on the driveway, these kids sit together, bundled up in jackets and hats after church on Sunday. You can bet the sermon that day was on overcoming adversity!Any of these kids look familiar? Or the Subaru wagon in the background? Or does anyone even know which church this is?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. The Guerneville Flood Project: Submerged Jaguar on Main Street

floodjaguar.jpg
The most heartbreaking photo of all—at least for classic car enthusiasts.

We can only imagine what happened to this old Jaguar. Surely, the upholstery needed to be re-done after having been lost on Main Street in the flood. Did it ever run again?Perhaps you know someone who drive this sweet-lookin' ride around town in 1986?If so, let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. The Guerneville Flood Project: White-Haired Guy in Shelter

floodguyinsheltercigarettes.jpg
There's a few shots in these archives of people, just people, recuperating at the shelter in Santa Rosa after the flood. Clutching three packs of cigarettes and looking like he hasn't slept in days is this unknown person, probably swearing at the camera.

You know, he probably hadn't slept in days.Does anyone know who he was? Where he might have moved to?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian. Now there's a mess! Pictured here is a giant pile of junk in front of River Rendezvous, a bar in Guerneville.

Who remembers the River Rendezvous? Why did it become the dumping ground for all this stuff?Let us know in the comments below. The Guerneville Flood Project is a week-long dive into the photo archives of the North Bay Bohemian.
