I have been to Ram's Gate at least once every few months since they opened. Really spectacular winery, with great ambiance. Unlike some others that serve small plates, their food is prepared by an in house chef and far surpasses the usual crackers and nibbles you might get. You'd expect this place to be stuffy/snobby, but there's none of that. http://www.ramsgatewinery.com

Rather than 11-8pm, we are going to open from 8-5pm Th-Sat and 9-2 on Sunday. We apologize for the switch around!! We saw that people were coming earlier the last couple of weekends. The Noshery will open later once we get our beer/wine license early next year.

11:00am to 9:00pm tues thur thurs
11:00am to 10:00pm fri and sat
12:00 to 8:00 sun.

Francis Coppola is revered as a director for movies he made decades ago.
Today, he's just another megalomaniacal jackass in a sea of Cheneys, Jacksons and Golly-burtons.
His 'rustic' destination in Geyserville feels like Sal Corleone embellished a bankrupt French amusement park, then when he couldn't run it, Sal the Loser handed it over to some corporate management stiffs.
By comparison, Vito or Michael would look out over the wealthy white-trash tourist clientele, then at Souverain's old mansards and the churlish supervisors...then one of them'd call Luca Brasi and have him break Francis's knees.
When the director of The Godfather finally begged for forgiveness, Luca'd run a 2' long 10ga needle iinto Francis' stomach, then watch FC deflate faster than a cheap balloon on a bbq.

What makes you think that Sebastopol's traffic would be significantly affected by the opening of a 2nd location of an amazing, local, sustainable, organic, NPO retailer? The population of Sebastopol won't necessarily rise. If anything, the traffic should be more evenly distributed as consciously influenced shoppers flock from, or divide between, the City's most highly impacted junction where Whole Foods, the corporate underdog of the story, resides.
If any difference in traffic should incur, Sebastopol should see an easement in traffic as devout patrons of Community Market's (CM) Santa Rosa location are enabled to shop locally, thus minimizing their need to commute to Santa Rosa.
What shops in downtown Sebastopol are you concerned that CM's operation will negatively affect? Are you inferring that the supposed increase in traffic would cause people to U-turn half way to their destination, thereby avoiding said businesses or that the breadth of goods sold at CM would encompass some of the specialty items sold in those shops?
Perhaps an agreement could be made between CM and local specialty shops, barring the sales of candles, incense, vintage clothing, and crystals? Then everybody wins!

You, Yes You, great arttcile but did you really need to use that word, do you know the ten commandment, did it really do anything for you when it rolled off the tip of your tounge or when it flew off your keyboard , I know for me all it did was make me lose rececpt for you, pissing people off like me you have a standing in this communty and if its ok for you to do this every other brain dead person can do it, Thy shall not use Gods name in vain, try replacing the D with a T then you wont. What a load of BS.
People that opposed the tasting room project won't soon forget the Schwartz's veiled threats of "turning people in for illegal structures" because of their opposition- nor the pompous blight that initiated it.
So please, drink Fort Ross wine... and be sure to toast all the little people that the Schwartz family stepped on to get there. South Africa may be the capital of blood-diamonds... and Fort-Ross is now the capital of bad-blood wine. Enjoy!

I do enjoy the spry wit of your writing style. I laughed so much when I read the article on the "lavishly spartan" Fort Ross Tasting Room. Lester is still disputing which one of us reminded you of a Berkeley Social Studies Professor... Besides the polished prose, I did appreciate your gracious comments about our wine. I'm wondering how the traffic will be handled. When I come in from Santa Rosa after 3:00 on Rt. 12 there's already lots of traffic. Also, what will happen to our wonderful shops in downtown Sebastopol? Is there a city plan to support and help those businesses continue to thrive? I do like the central idea of the Barlow in my community but I care about the welfare of all of Sebastopol. Thanks for having a space to post. Diane Marie

We have a vacation rental in Kenwood and recently stopped by the newly completed VJB. What a treat! The grounds are amazing, taking us a bit back to some small palazzo in Italy. The pizza and gelato were excellent and the friendly staff, as always, extremely helpful. This will be a regular stop for us with the amazing atmosphere, people, wines and now, larger selection of food! We are very pleased with the outcome of the project and hope they live long and prosper.

Interesting article. I'm for anything that would diminish the consumption of fatty, artery clogging foods which result in illness and medical expense. Slaughtering animals is also not high on my list of priorities for having a good time. The force feeding and limited exercise edured by ducks before their slaughter for this little treat is outrageous. I'm not aware of an underground market for veal so I'm hoping the predictions along those lines regarding foie gras will prove unfounded. Kudos to Miss Abrahams for an informative and thought provoking article.
