Re: “Ag Is Open Space

Also, it would have been nice to have RP city councils support, but I wonder why, if this parcel is on county land, they should be able to "veto"--anybody know?

Re: “Ag Is Open Space

THANK YOU MR WIIG FOR WRITING THIS! You put it way better than me. Here's what I wrote to the to city council.

"I am writing to you in support of the incubator farm. I am a small-scale organic farmer in the county (entering my 6th year). I benefited from an apprenticeship at an incubator farm (at Hidden Villa, in Los Altos) and came back to Sonoma County, where I grew up, to start my own farm (Let's Go Farm) and run the vegetable portion of Shone Farm. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see this absolutely necessary institution be blocked by a few neighbors and people who don't realize that the money collected from an Ag preservation and open space district-our money-is supposed to go to Ag preservation as well. Please know that there are many of us in the farming community who want to see this incubator take root. It is essential if we want to support not just our rural citizens, but our urban citizens - after all - everybody eats!

Please take action to support the incubator farm at tonight's meeting.

Thank you,
Joey Smith

Re: “Beef of Burden

Once again, the National Park Service is under fire in the Bay Area for issues of mismanagement. There's been a constant drone of criticism from Drake's Bay to West Marin cattle ranching practices to Tule Elk dying of thirst to massive traffic at Muir Woods damaging the environment to curtailing legitimate recreational uses at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including dog walking, bonfires and sporting events. Has anyone ever given thought that maybe, just maybe, the National Park Service does not have the expertise or leadership in place here? Maybe they are not the right agency, considering their experience and forte is managing remotes wilderness areas? Yes, these are hard, complex issues. Yes, there are competing interests. Of course, it's not easy. Yet this is not a good performance review by any stretch. Can anyone argue it's not time for a total shake-up and revamping of NPS leadership and operations in the Bay Area? Anyone?

Collapsing fisheries. Collapsing oceans. Collapsing forests. And yet still no one mentions geoengineering. Have we lost the ability to trust our own judgement and common sense? For the most part it appears that we have. Look up. The answer(s) are right above us.

Re: “Early Adopters

I am Goshen Perry by name i want to say a big thanks to the St Anthonio Orphanage home for making my dreams come true. I and my wife have been married for long now, but we are unable to have a child because of some health issues. And we decided to adopt. We have been hearing that the process to adopt a child is a very difficult one so since then going through the process has really been our fear. but we got in contact with someone who adopted from St Anthonio Orphanage she told us that the process in St Anthonio is very easy. so i decided to contact St Anthonio Orphanage, and behold the process was so easy and in just one week i got the child and now i am a happy man because the child is finally with me. So please i want you all to help me say a big thanks to St Anthonio Orphanage for their good heart. In case you want to also adopt a child, and you don't want to go through any stress i recommend you to St Anthonio Orphanage Home. Their email is (stanthonioorphanagehome@gmail.com), and their phone number is +1 (508) 686-7018

Re: “Turn to Bern?

There is no "white knight" that will save this nation that is run by The Crown and The Committee of 300 as they reach thier apex. Stop following this distraction as we are being poisoned, literaly and mentaly, from the psycopaths that run our world government. If you live in CA how about looking up from all of the bombardment of media... I mean really.... go outside and look up. In fact I dare you all to watch the cloud "lines" being sprayed accross our sky and just question it.
I am not a person who likes to post anything, but we must all know about this and talk about it; Geoengineeringwatch.org Act now, talk to eachother, before we have nothing left. Even if you are not religious (I am not saying to convert) just go to your local churches to connect with people, we need to unite the people who want to care about our future and our childrens future, for this planet and every thing living on it. Because once you know, you cannot ignore it, and if we do something now, we can save ourselves and eachother before it's too late.

Re: “Out of the Fog

One of my absolute favorites in Sonoma County! The Chardonnay opened me up to so much, the Grist Zin has become my guilty pleasure, and the Neighbors Pinot Noir is to die for. Highly recommend a visit to this place. Bring a picnic and sit at their outdoor tables or adirondacks, and play some bocce!

Re: “Turn to Bern?

Sorry! I am not a good loser, that's why I don't gamble. Put it this way, I am not going to vote for Sen. Cruz, former Gov. John Kasich who are in the corrupt institution called Congress or the Republican good old boys clique. It's obvious if it comes to a convention, GOP elites are not going to pick Donald Trump. Using Kasich to bring down Trump, at any meeting are risking and it's at there own peril. Nor am I voting for that Criminal Hillary Clinton or a Socialist-Communist Bernie Sanders who along with King Obama has pilfered the depleted federal and state treasuries, in supporting financially millions of illegal aliens. I'll stay to the end until Donald Trump is either crippled or loses the race as nominee for the Presidency, by using any method to block Trump, which means any dirty tricks diversion, any manipulating of the delegates by either Political Party.

If it goes against Donald Trump I am out, my family out, a bunch of old GI's who fought in Viet-Nam are out; a majority of my friends and co-worker thought their vote didn't matter are out and people who have never shadowed the election booth and millions of Trump you can be rest assured supporters will drop out. The effect of riots in the street of civil unrest is will cause what's left of our sovereignty to collapse, Why bother voting when they see the election system is corrupt. All these people are a tiny drop in the ocean, but it's not worth my energy or encouragement to vote for GOP establishment, or an alleged felon who violated our National Security and just like Sanders wants to soak the rich, and then kill more jobs of what is left of them.

I never trusted either party as anybody who goes into today's Washington morass, is corrupted by the lobbyists who appear at their offices offering them blank checks that they can squirrel away as long as they work for them on the floor of the House and Senate. The people who voted for Donald Trump are part of the 'Silent Majority'. The American people are so demoralized by the Left or Right who never pursue what the population want; not the elites or a government that wants controls your life, just as the Kremlin does in Russia even today. Hillary is a clever in her dialogue, ranting on about equality and telling Americans that Conservatives are against every minority and ethnic population. YES! She's good with her automatic commentaries, but she still has the same weak agenda of Obama and his proponents, that will drone on just like the other party.

Any theft in a contested conference will certainly implode inside the Republican Party if they try to isolate the Donald. Why has millions of a silent majority entered the fray, because they want to see the Trump wall go up. Right now the United States are on the edge of economic disaster and the filaments extend outwards that includes the illegal alien invasion, that is depleting large chunks of social services and is effected Citizens and Legal immigrants way of life. More highway congestion, when foreigners are given drivers licenses and much of the facts about the illegal immigrant inversion is muffled by Obama's government and the mainstream press. States like Ohio, Michigan has lost hundreds of thousands of jobs, not only theft by illegal aliens, but by people with profiles chief negotiator Democratic John Kerry who gave away $150 Billion dollars to Iran.

On Obama's orders and GOP Cartel elites who have sold our jobs and businesses to foreign countries, that includes Mexico. Although our deficit with Mexico is $60 B, it does not compare with China' $600 Billion. To me it's no wonder that Detroit, Michigan, or the 'Rust Belt' states as they are called, which was once a hive of the bustling auto and steel industry. Now thousands of empty lots padlocked and still, having moved to Mexico. 9 provinces in the NAFTA treaty are the capitols of General motors, Ford, and Chrysler and a whole range of foreign cars and trucks, now manufactured across the border.

Re: “Taking the 5th

These comments are, in and of themselves, so biased, they prove many of the points made in the article. They're like a spectacular illustration of the entire idea behind Jonah Raskin's thoughts.

In reality, Raskin's write-up on the 5th District Supervisorial Race captures well the political theater that typifies Sonoma County and SoCo as a microcosm of broader American political trends. While some supporters of Noreen Evans, who has served the public as an elected official before and has many supporters, seem to have taken umbrage at this look at regional politics - certainly all of the folks posting here - they miss the underlying point: politics is always the politics of perception and the perception of this race is that it's getting a little dicey - one might say, as Raskin has, gonzo.

The article is less about Evans and contender Lynda Hopkins, who has not served in elected office before and has many supporters, than it is about the inner workings of the sometimes brutal political machine that informs our contemporary politics and the journalists and campaign workers who hear and know the real stories of local and regional campaigns that can often trend harsh behind the scenes - despite the apparent idealism of the candidates.

Re: “Taking the 5th

I agree with Laura Gonzalez. As she said, "This is a sadly disappointing article. I was actually embarrassed for Jonah Rankin while reading this piece." The references to Hunter Thompson made no sense at all, his lack of substance about what each of the candidates stand for, his obvious bias in favor of Lynda Hopkins simply because she is young and inexperience, and his tying Noreen Evans to the "good old boys" when it is Hopkins through the support of Koenigshafer, the big business group Alliance, etc. who is a young, female, inexperienced "good old boy" in the making. Yes, she's the Hillary Clinton in the race. If you really want to protect the Sonoma County we know and love, vote for Noreen Evans.

Re: “Taking the 5th

This is a sadly disappointing article. I was actually embarrassed for Jonah Rankin while reading this piece. He obviously has no clue about local politics. "Can Lynda Hopkins bust up the West County Boys' Club"? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? She's new face of the Boys' Club! Why didn't you take off the rose-colored glasses before interviewing and rallying around Lynda Hopkins? She's a carpetbagger, she's no FDR, and she's bought and paid for by the same people who foisted Efren Carrillo on us. His backers are now her backers. Herman Hernandez Jr, her campaign manager, and his dad, have been staunch Carrillo supporters since the beginning. And her consultant is Rob Muelrath, and you're trying to tell us she's not an insider and she's going to "save the 5th"? From what? A seasoned veteran who has stood with working class people her whole political life? A politician who isn't in the back pocket of Mr. Doug Bosco?

Do you know why Eric Koenigshafer isn't running, even though he said he would if his buddy Efren didn't run? Because the puppetmasters found someone better, and Eric knows it's all about the machine, and not him. That's why he gallantly stepped aside for Hopkins.

Do us all a major favor and stop writing about local politics until you actually know something about local politics. Sheesh.

Re: “Taking the 5th

The title of this article is highly misleading.

"Take Back the Fifth District" from who?

And for what?

From the SAME people who backed Efren Carrillo in his last two election bids?

And to keep the strings of power attached firmly to someone who has never held public office, who has never written a piece of legislation which has actually affected the lives of community members and who has NEVER cast a SINGLE VOTE for or against a resolution, an item or a bill?

As far as I'm concerned, this article is so full of biases, inaccuracies and intentionally misleading meanderings that it has been rendered completely meaningless to anyone who was looking to your publication for an investigative treatise on the two candidates' respective backgrounds, qualifications and abilities to represent and lead the voters of the Fifth District.

Sadly, you fritted away a grand opportunity to do so - and seriously impaled your journalistic integrity in the process.

Adrienne, Thanks for catching that errant editing of Julie Combs' full name and that she is a Santa Rosa city council member. It's been corrected in the online version. Thanks to everyone else for their comments.

Re: “Taking the 5th

It was a poorly written and sexist article (maybe Mr Raskin's many mistakes and omissions occured while he was so blinded by Ms. Hopkins' "folksy glamour"?) How anyone from Sonoma County who knows even a smidgen about the Sonoma County Business Alliance, and Eric Koenigshafer and the Real Estate PAC (who are Hopkins supporters) could characterize Ms Hopkins as a 'new deal democrat who looks to Franklin Roosevelt for inspiration' is beyond me. Mr Raskin is seriously out of touch with local politics if he doesn't realize that Linda Hopkins is this year's Efren Carrillo- backed by the same Good Old Boys who have run this county for years. References to Noreen Evans' age were irrelevant and inappropriate. Politics is not a glamour contest or a youth competition.
