THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING !
If there were a negative star rating, this "performance" merits it. It is a ridiculous ensemble of (mostly) untalented singers and...we'll call them dancers. I think my 8-year-old and slumber party friends would have come up with better dialogue and dance moves. At one point I thought I was watching an aerobics class. They looked to each other for cues, were constantly out of synch and not centered on the stage, and one guy was even chewing gum as he danced! Come on now...these are the basics, no need to go to Juilliard to know this. The lyrics were banal and a constant overkill of the introductory message relayed to the audience on an old-fashioned film screen in the far background. Perhaps the props and stage were going for the minimalist look, but it felt more like we were at the first day of rehearsal than opening night. From the lack or originality in the costumes and set design (there was none), to the disconnected music which sounded like nothing you'd associate with Cuba, and all of the non-latino people declaring proudly that "they are the spirit of the cuban people," it was the most surprising theatrical disappointment I've ever had, even for what one is expecting in community theatre. Another poignant example of the pain: At one point there was a song addressing the shift from capitalism to communism and the analogy was conveyed Sesame Street-style by replacing the M in Me with a W for We...and the melody to match. Wow, really? Two of the main vocalists had pleasant, very powerful and melodic voices with much potential, but require voice training to completely master their god-given talent. At least there was that. The musical would have been much better if they got rid of the singing and dancing and just stuck to the documentary on the screen with the narrator. There were issues there, too, but I'll stop here.
Such a joy. Brilliant play and wonderfully performed.
Where on campus are the speakers/film
I've been to one of their auctions in the past. It's a great community and they have some amazing items to bid on as well as awesome W County wines. I'm going again this year
Looks like a great event. We'll be there!
This seems to be an error. Mill Valley Library says this event was a few weeks ago.
This event is past. There is no performance at the Mill Valley Library on Saturday March 16. Look out for future Sunday Specials and other events!
Blueshift is great funky fun!
Transcendental Disaster by Mars-1 will be at Petaluma Arts Center, April 6-June 2. Individual and collaborative works by artists Mars-1, Damon Soule and Oliver Vernon and a large scale mural on the Phoenix Theater by North Bay artist Ricky Watts. Opening party April 13, 4-6 pm, followed by a DJ dance downtown.
If this year's event is anything like last year's - it's a must attend, especially if you like vodka cocktails and lots of people dressed to have lots of fun.
Really great event last year and, with Speakeasy theme, it should be even better this year!
Great event! Can't wait!

Great place to get your music and support a local vendor!
Since I'm the band leader, my rating should be suspect, so I made it neutral. But I wanted to share some comments received from dancers at the last Penngrove gig:
"It was a blast last time at the pub".
"Les Amis tore the house down last night."
Boy that feels good.
