The reviews here are rather outdated. Shige Sushi has become wildly popular--and for good reason. The food is good, the service is good, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and there's always good art on the walls.
They have the most amazing shells and cheese bread I have ever had. They are by far my favorite pizza place in the North Bay.

I love this place! It is our go-to taqueria. They are very consistent. Everything I've ever had there is so good. They also have a fresh salsa bar inside.

We started going to Hikuni several years ago and it was fantastic. We always got the sushi boat and enjoyed it very much. The quality of the food was fantastic as well as the flavors. The service was good and the price was worth it. Then something changed. It just wasn't nearly as good - the quality, the flavors, the interior of the restaurant. We tried one more time with some friends and had the all you can eat sushi dinners. It was ok until the last roll - which was inedible. It was something that the chef torched, and that was about all that you could taste: the torch fuel. How awful! And the interior of the restaurant was in poor condition too.
Now, to the present. We got a coupon for Hikuni, so we decided to give it another try. Perhaps something has changed - owner, management, etc. and the place has gotten better. We arrived and we got ourselves seated in our usual area - behind the bar. Our server was really good working with us while we decided what to order. Finally we ordered the all you can eat sushi. A few minutes go by and we get our soup and salad. The salad was a rather disappointing green salad. The miso soup was pretty thin - and the bowl had a large bit of food stuck on the inside of it. Grose.
About 10 minutes after our wonderful server took away the soup and lackluster salad she brought us our sushi plates and soy sauce plates. I noticed that the sushi plates had lots of spots on it and it was dull, not shiny as the plastic plate should have been. Thus I ran my finger across the plate. Those spots had depth to them so I figured I would try to clean the plate. I added water from my glass and rubbed with my napkin and, low and behold, with some elbow grease, half of the plate is now shiny and clean. We discussed the plate, salad and soup and decided to talk to a manager.
I watched for anyone who could get the manager, but the only one who was looking our way was the maitre d'. I waved at her and signaled that I needed her attention, but she went on doing something with menus. A few seconds later she looked our way again and I pointed at her, then signaled to her that I needed her attention. She did not stop what she was doing. Then this happened one more time with no response. I had to get up and walked over to her and ask for a manager. She went to get him.
He arrived and I proceeded to tell him that the sushi plates were dirty and he told us that the plates were in fact not dirty, but they were just dull due to use. We had to point out to him the the half of the plate that I rubbed with the napkin (and left the napkin with brown spots on it) was indeed clean and shiny like new, not dull and spotty as the other half is. He still insisted that the plates were in fact clean. I had to explain to him that the sterilizer that restaurants use did likely sterilize the plates, but it did not clean the plates. That requires scrubbing. He still insisted the the plates were clean. We should have cancelled our order and left, but we didn't. We asked for clean plates. He took one with him. After about 5 minutes two plates arrived. We looked at them and could see that they were cleaner than the others, but had only been scrubbed half-heatedly as you could see the scratches that the scrubber made in the build-up that was stuck on the plates.
Finally, about 30 minutes after we ordered, the sushi finally arrived. I didn't think the restaurant was busy enough to take that long, but apparently it was. ?.? We ordered our favorite roll, the rock and roll, a beefed-up California roll, a spicy tuna tuna roll, and another one I can't remember. The rock and roll was rather lackluster. The beefed-up California roll was ok and the other two rolls lacked flavor. Granted, we did order the sushi without any of the mayo sauce on them, so they would probably had more flavor otherwise.
Overall, our server was kind of slow (because she was way overworked due to being short handed), but she did a good job. The plates and my bowl were dirty. The soup was thin. The salad was lackluster. The sushi was also lackluster, The interior of the restaurant needs a serious makeover.
In short, Hikuni started out fantastic, went downhill and after several years hasn't changed. We will never go back!

Bodega Bay's best kept secret. Excellent food and service, great harbor views, serene & relaxing atmosphere.
It's very good pizza. Lots of cheese on a deep dish. The Medium-sized mushroom and garlic is one of their best. Don't choose too many ingredients; usually one or two. Don't order a large - for some reason, they skimp on the ingredients on their large pizzas; and they're very expensive. Stick with the medium-size and you'll be pleased. I've been eating Old Chicago pizzas for over 30 years. Sometimes, you just have to have one! Like a burger attack... They take about 30 minutes to cook, it's deep-dish after all. A medium will set you back about $21.85 for about 6 pieces on a medium, and most people will only eat one or two pieces - they're big and thick.
In my opinion they serve the best sushi in Santa Rosa for the most decent prices.
