Bookstores are more than books. They are places for people to gather in community. Mackenzie Bezos played a role in taking away a safe place for women to gather perhaps by her silent complicity during the lawsuit. Today the ethical thing for the Bezos to do is to give back the Amazon name to the Minneapolis women’s bookstore along with financial restitution. As we all know, the Amazon legacy is to stand up to bullies and fight for the underdogs.

The name Amazon was stolen from Amazon Bookstore a feminist bookstore founded in 1970 in Minneapolis, MN. In 1999 the Amazon Bookstore for-profit collective sued Jeff Bezos for trademark infringement, plus staff time and money lost due to customers and suppliers mistaking their store for the Web retailer.
When Jeff Bezos stole the Amazon name, he encouraged his lawyers to interrogate a store co-owner while she was under oath about her sexual orientation and that of her staff! This week Copperfield’s Book Club hosts Mackenzie Bezos who typed a trite book about four women. I want to know how she feels about the women whose lives and livelihood she helped trample. I also want to know how Paul Jaffe and Barney Brown would feel about a corporation selling books using Copperfields.com. I think these are important musings for small independent bookstore owners and their customers.

The fact that this story is posted and has both positive and negative comments shows Mr. Briano has had some measure of success. Theater will die if you don't get people talking about it and going out to see the productions. He seems to be leading when no one else wants to. Briano should be appreciated and helped. Perhaps a list of which companies opted out of consideration or which were included might help. It never helps to be mean. LGygax

Sorry, E.P.A. abatement is forth coming...Things change and water quality by the Fed's upon the NorthWest Coastal Rivers and tributaries cannot be circumvented by emotions....The failure of Monte Rio residents and business to pump sewage is tantamount to crimes against the environment....All uphill into a non-existant sewer pipe and water treatment Center..The County refusal to provide permits or prior Red-tagged buildings and parcels, has demolished app. one-fourth of the former buildings...All were similar as low lying along the Federal Russian River, U.S. Army Corps Warm Springs Dam Hatchery, Mill Creek, Felta Creek, Green Valley Creek, Mark West Creek, and DutchBill Creek,,,App. nine billion dollars annual is spent now, from Santa Cruz to Canada for water quality. Further operation of the Rio Theater may subject the owners to criminal prosecution by more ground water pollution. And inadequate toilet pumping service for patrons...Watch your money.....

Erma and Daniel have created so many venues that have been taken from them by people with more money behind them. What pisses me off is that they have NEVER BEEN GIVEN CREDIT for ESTABLISHING these places as good venues for music. Erma and Daniel should be recognized as the people who saw the possibilities and made it happen in these places. No one could have been sure it would work at the Masonic, the Seafood Peddler or the Larkspur Cafe without their insight and hard work.
That said, Sweetwater is amazing, as is Terrapin and I am happy for their success. Could we have some appreciation that their success is because Erma and Daniel made them a viable venue in the first place?

Thank goodness the a California Appeals Court finally issued a ruling that might eventually end-up protecting care givers of the frail, disabled, and elderly, not only in Sonoma County California, but State wide.

So Shriek, let's get this straight: the right thing, the ETHICAL thing to do when one is the direct descendant of a world-class huckster and thief of souls, is not to speak out, but to shut up about it. Nobody cares about the thousands of people still enmeshed in the cult Jamie's great-grandfather founded, or the families they've disconnected from, or the internal gulag system the cult runs.

Thanks for the comment, Steven. You are correct, the library slam was the the predecessor of the NBPS. It was mentioned in the article as Brianna's first slam, which later created energy for another regularly-occurring slam. It's a shame that its funding was cut. I went to one years back and it was well-attended. Moral of the story, stop cutting budgets from literary programs, especially libraries.

I am not so sure about the accuracy of this statement. I am sure that Jake Ward, who is a Co-Founder of International House of Poetry at the Arlene Francis Center, a friend, and a Co-Castmember of mine on televsion's Eat The Fish Presents, was helping B-Sage with the North Bay Poetry slam when she was just getting started.

This article seams to imply that the whole north bay poetry scene stemmed from the Northbay Poetry Slam, when in fact, was this not all a result of the the poetry slams thrown at the Sonoma County Library?

Comes across like a self-aggrandizing, pompous loudmouth. What an idiot. He's a lot like El Ron in that way. The Fatman built his cult through pure aggrandizement, and Jamie the Troll is trying to build his own following on the back of Scientology and the Fatman. Fortunately, most people don't give a rats ass about Scientology anymore, so Jamie will have to eventually begin attempting to cultivate some sense of talent and originality, both of which he's lacked for years.
I can't imagine how his girlfriend tolerates his madness. Jamie, please put a dirty sock in it and save the world from the sickness of your voice which sounds like a screaming pig.

I wonder how come they haven't called on some of Sonoma County's most successful home bred actor's to date. There are so many of them that I am sure would really enjoy participating and voting. I can think of quite a few incredibly successful professional actors and actresses that have come out of Sonoma County throughout the years and go one to be in many Broadway Shows that still reside or travel back to Sonoma County often.

The Author obviously never lifted a finger to read Agenda 21 or do any sort of investigative reporting.... just regurgitating what other people say. No wonder we are being usurped by the New World Order.... If people understood the main goal of the UN is to depopulate the planet and enslave who is left in the end, maybe they would "get it". The ultimate goal may not happen in the immediate future but I would think people would be slightly concerned about their progeny and future generations and resist laying the groundwork for it now. I highly recommend any intelligent person with the courage to admit our government lies and cannot be trusted to give this subject some very serious consideration. The global elite run the United Nations and they want the population down from 7.5B to 500M as shown on the Georgia Guidestones, the "10 Commandments" of the New World Order. They will be your "god" and it will NOT be pretty or even humane... The Eugenics movement is the same people behind this take-over and with Obama's recent Dictatorial behaviour, it is clearly they are closing in on our freedoms to condition us to be under their control.
