Re: “Debriefer: May 20, 2015

Curious as to why the Boho removed my previously posted comment quoting Charlie Swanson?
Isn't that censorship?

Charlie Swanson: "As the calendar editor at the Bohemian, I was shocked and saddened to see this written in my paper. Mr Gogola is the worst kind of comedian, out of touch and insensitive. I urge you all to write to the boho and voice your opinions. letters@bohemian.com I don’t think its too harsh to say that you should ask for his resignation."

You can still read the comment over on Gabe's Facebook page...are you going to delete it there too?

Re: “Year of the Rat

You're right. The headline seems to be 180-degrees opposite from the intent of the article. Shouldn't it be "In purportedly progressive Sonoma County, why are so few construction projects union?"

Re: “Debriefer: May 20, 2015

Let's look at that one more time...

--
It remains to be seen what becomes of the Napa tank, but Public Enemy might want to drop "Fight the Power" from the set-list during their scheduled BottleRock appearance next weekend.

The way Debriefer sees it, police are feeling a little sensitive around that kind of talk lately, especially when it's coming from militant African Americans . . . So keep your head down, Chuck D!

Re: “Year of the Rat

That headline makes no sense. Are most construction projects union. Or, are most construction projects non-union. It can't be both. Can it?

Re: “Line in the Sand

Sonoma Coast Surfrider is meeting this Thursday evening and every first Thursday of the month at 7:30 at Papas & Pollo in Sebastopol. We will continue to fight for free and safe access to our beaches but would really appreciate community support and people who care about this issue showing up at the meetings. We are looking to form a committee to work on free access and we are only asking for your time and effort. Please join us and contact sonomacoastsurfrider@comcast.net for more information.

Free Our Beaches!!!

The State Parks Dept. already tried this in the early 1990's, and the fisherman's wives group blockaded Bodega Head. That is where our memorial to fishermen lost at sea is located, near the West Lot. Please sign the change.org petition to the Coastal Commission to deny the State Parks' application to install "iron rangers" on the Sonoma Coast - Link here

Re: “The Bibliophile

The stuff on which we write is either parchment or vellum, which are sometimes interchangeable. However, the evidence for the etymology of the word seems conclusive in that we look to different languages for fine writing material. In Latin we have Vitellus, in Italian, Vitello. In Frech it is Veau. In the last two citations, we can find the words on menus. It would seem logical to read vellum as calf skin. As for parchment, Oxford scholars feel the name was derived from the settlement of Pergamum, found in Magna Grecia along the southwest coast of Italy. Alas, languages get "dumbed down" to indiscriminate word usage and it would seem that now both writing materials are often interchangeably.
