Re: “American Psychos

"If any of the 6 women killed in sandy hook had a concealed carry gun, there would have likely been fewer killed." (said Stephen Weiss.)

That is the kind of statement that makes me feel like gun fetishists (thanks Ari) live on their own special planet where "could have" and "might have" carry as much weight as, you know, facts.

Re: “American Psychos

Ari Levaux does not speak for hunters. Every statistic that he quotes that I am separately informed on is cooked, misleading at best. The kid told the school he brought the gun for safety, but no one at the school believed him, not the other students, not the administration. His bragging actions with the gun and intimidating other students with it betrayed the real reason. Ari's claim that armed citizens do not prevent or limit the scale of mass killings is rediculous. They just cannot completely eliminate the behavior. If any of the 6 women killed in sandy hook had a concealed carry gun, there would have likely been fewer killed. Armed mass killers in Israel dont kill 30, they kill 3-6 before the armed populace bring them down.

Re: “Up in Smoke

Thank you Sonoma County for stopping Zane and Brown. They are attacking innocent members of the cannabis community and must be stopped! Times are changing and Cannabis will be free and Legal and they need to accept this. These women are driven by a fear of the herb, and as a community we should encourage them to see cannabis in its true light, a vehicle for health, creativity, peace and prosperity. My heart goes out to all that have been victims of this terrible persecution. Long live Marijuana. Legalize!

Re: “An Unheard War

Drones & Directed Energy Assaults are used for two purposes 1)mass murder 2) kill the will of man.

Understand that the wholesale killing and torturing of people globally by the fbi/cia/pentagon, and their operatives is executed by any means available, including Drones, Directed Energy Weaponry, High Tech Chemical & Biological Assaults. The killers of this nation understand that mass murder is not enough to stop the adversaries; one must also break the will of man to defend his own country, his own life (& that of his family) and his own sanity. Total psychological surrender is required. Torture and the threat of torture are the new weaponry used by the United States Of America in order to once and for all control all mankind and all nations. The USA's own combat veterans and patriots are also subject to the deadly assaults and torture. For more on torture see:

Re: “Reinvestment 101

I was really bummed out when the bribes kicked in and the Target mess was approved. Yes I say bribes were set in place this is the only way these corporate vultures operate. The mess caused by this project will never paid back. The jobs lost to these part time slave wages will be felt whether we think so or not. This mess will not see my body enter it shopping. I avoid these junk sales outlets. SHOP LOCALLY! SHOP SMALL BUSINESSES! KEEP YOU MONEY IN PETALUMA

Re: “Estranged Grange

The Grange is indeed growing, here in Sebastopol, and throughout California, as this article indicates. I joined in 2010 and find it a rewarding and fun group to be a part of. We meet at the Grange Hall on Highway 12 on the last Tuesday of each month, starting with a potluck--great food--followed by a meeting. We are open to all. The Grange, which I used to attend at our family farm in Iowa in the middle of the 20th century, is a very family-friendly organization. People of all ages are welcome. Check it out.

Re: “Safe Streets

I love to walk, I ride a bicycle and ride a scooter regularly and have never been harrassed in 25 years as referenced in this article.

Every year hundreds of good intentions are translated into new codes, rules and regulations. Unfortunately good intentions also obey the law of unintended consequences. Let me give you an example. In the 90's I participated for years in a homeless feeding program in San Francisco at the Civic Center on Sundays. One day (to help) we decided to let all the people with crutches and canes go to the front of the line without having to wait. Well within 3 weeks the numbers of people with canes and crutches more than tripled from before.

When we ask for new laws we very rarely see how they play themselves out over the years in real life. In many cases they create as many problems as they solve. We need to find wiser and saner ways to deal with our issues rather than want to regulate everything.

now that we elected the better guy -- time to let him know what we think of his behavior. You know Jerry Garcia (the great philosopher) once said when you choose the lesser of two evils, you're still choosing EVIL.

Re: “Chairman Sarris

An endowed chair? Really? "The purpose of the endowed chair is to foster greater understanding of the Native American culture and communities of California. This endowed chair was made possible through the $2.5 million donation from the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria."
Building a casino wouldn't have been on the minds of getting him his endowment now would it?

Re: “How We Represent

Roseland is the Washington, D.C. of Santa Rosa. Everyone knows Roseland is where it's at, but nobody wants it to vote.

Re: “How We Represent

"If minorities are already well-represented in Santa Rosa, then why can't parents in the city's most predominantly Latino neighborhood get a simple crosswalk painted on the road in front of their children's school?"

Stop spreading the hate and division. Replace the word "minority" with "White" and you'll see the stupidity of your ideas. Is there some reason the parents can't lay two boards down and spray white paint between them to make a solid white line then pick the boards up and move them five feet and repeat it again? That's what we did at our school in a White neighborhood.

As a native of San Francisco, now here, I have seen district elections make San Francisco a laughing stock and a place where not only is there no consensus but you have the most corrosive parochialism at work.
"This is a Black District" This is a White District", this district is "reserved for a Latino."

Don't do it! I am voting no on Q and you should too.

Re: “Chairman Sarris

The family Mr. Sarris claims to be his has, according to the matriarch of the family Velia Navarro, no Native American blood at all. He is not an Indian. The stories Mr. Sarris has told about Ms. Navarro's family, including her beloved great grandmother and grandmother, are patently untrue and deeply offensive to the family. The casino project is an environmental catastrophe, which no amount of money will be able to put right. It has destroyed sensitive vernal wetlands habitat and the genetically unique Sonoma County Tiger Salamanders unfortunate enough to live on the casino footprint site. No other developer would have been able to build on this land, which was set aside as critical habitat for the salamander before casino construction began. No payments to the county will be made until 2014, if at all, as the tribe does not have to pay if it does not make enough profit. The tribe does not have to allow independent audits, including by state officials, to determine if it has made enough profit. These are all facts, and all verifiable.

Re: “How We Represent

I live in Roseland, and the new elementary school, Roseland Creek, has a nice bike path all the way through the West side -- so it's perplexing that the other school can't get a crosswalk painted. One thing I've noticed since moving here -- from Marin county -- is that helicopters fly over our side of the city almost NON stop. Lots of times they fly low, with search lights, and really disturb the peace. What is up with them polluting our airspace with noise, and cops constantly up and down the streets. They SHOULD allow us a district representative, because they sure see Roseland as an area in their jurisdiction. When it comes to cracking down, they're all over Roseland. Sure, we have our share of crime, but after four years here, what I see is hard-working families like ourselves, just trying to make a good life for our kids in Santa Rosa.

Re: “Vote!

On the surface this seems like something I'd support but the more I think about it, it's seems like a NO vote from me. Here's why:
-If you're not a deadbeat with the cheapo insurance like the General or Freeway, seriously how often do you really ever switch insurance companies? My parents have had AAA since 1974 and I've had the same insurance since I graduated from college. Other than the company being bought by Nazis, I don't know what will cause me to switch considering I'm happy with them,
-I've been hit too many times by deadbeats without insurance. Anything that makes it more expensive for these people, I'm against.

Re: “Express Lane

It's easy to grow a lot of your own food once you have a garden established. Things like arugula, lettuce, berries and other vegetables can be grown wherever a lawn thrives. Goggle "how to grow food" for ideas on creating a garden.

Re: “Cargill's Way

I think those brown people would prefer not to work among poisons. Higher incidences of health problems, in particular birth defects, are one of the reasons Cesar Chavez spoke out in favor of organics. Their working conditions should be better in many ways but this benefit, in addition to the pesticide and herbicide runoff into water, were ignored by the Stanford study and New York article. After reading the times article my first question, as it should always be in this age of budget cuts to desperate universities, was "who funded it?". Thanks for letting me know.

Re: “House and Home

Kamala Harris hasn't done squat. Her "Bill of Rights" is basically lifted whole cloth from New York State Attorney General Schneiderman's bill.

She is desperate to join the Obama Administration which as everyone knows is in bed with the banks and Wall Street. She is a phony Democrat in Name only and will whatever it takes to keep her name in the press and pretend like she's doing something real. Look at the details of her bill and then decide if it's effective.

What's needed is a serious Occupy-type movement to take back the foreclosed houses and maintain them in better shape than could the foreclosing banks.

Also, hedge fund bloc purchased properties should be squatted by locals in a clean, organized and socially useful manner. This has to be an organized and viable movement, not degenerate into a bunch of homeless trashing these places and creating photo ops for the financial powers that be.
