Next time you're researching Sangiovese, please consider Villa Ragazzi's - the first Sangiovese planted in Napa Valley (1985) to a low vigor/low producing clone.

As an added plus, the estate vines are also organic...And the estate Cab wine got rave reviews from Wine & Spirits! I think the Cab is GORGEOUS. Restrained, lovely.

One of my absolute favorites in Sonoma County! The Chardonnay opened me up to so much, the Grist Zin has become my guilty pleasure, and the Neighbors Pinot Noir is to die for. Highly recommend a visit to this place. Bring a picnic and sit at their outdoor tables or adirondacks, and play some bocce!

I find restaurants with Coravin offerings have saved me from drinking either poorly chosen wines by the glass offerings or the aforementioned poorly stored and cared for wines by the glass.

When describing the French who live long in spite of eating rich foods and drinking wine, why does no one mention that most is consumed with food? That's the way it was in my family, whose emigration from France was very long ago. We had a few uncles who sipped wine at other times. They did this in their cellars to avoid the frowns of their wives. But "le diner" and "apres diner" were when most people imbibed.

thanks for writing about the upcoming Bay Area grand tasting, sorry you didn't like these two samples. (One isn't a member at this time.)
The Grand Tasting will feature over 100 wineries, pouring over 500 American Rhone wines, so something for everyone, I encourage all to come try! Many of the producers are very small, and from all regions and a number of states.

Sunday April 6th, prior to the Grand Tasting are two seminars, and Saturday evening, April 5th is the Winemakers Dinner at the Generals Residence.

Alison makes some killer wines, and I'd recommend anyone who enjoys Pinot Noir to try her Carneros or Rodgers Creek offerings. At $19/29 respectively, they're both a great deal and display some great flavors.

Neat, upon what property is running a tractor?
Is he a part-time owner operator of a modest vineyard?
Are they making money from working for his father, twice?
Or does he has ownership of this business in Calistoga.
And is it solvent?

I have been to Ram's Gate at least once every few months since they opened. Really spectacular winery, with great ambiance. Unlike some others that serve small plates, their food is prepared by an in house chef and far surpasses the usual crackers and nibbles you might get. You'd expect this place to be stuffy/snobby, but there's none of that.

What a load of BS.

People that opposed the tasting room project won't soon forget the Schwartz's veiled threats of "turning people in for illegal structures" because of their opposition- nor the pompous blight that initiated it.

So please, drink Fort Ross wine... and be sure to toast all the little people that the Schwartz family stepped on to get there. South Africa may be the capital of blood-diamonds... and Fort-Ross is now the capital of bad-blood wine. Enjoy!

I do enjoy the spry wit of your writing style. I laughed so much when I read the article on the "lavishly spartan" Fort Ross Tasting Room.
