Re: “Nov. 24-Dec. 1: The Thanksgiving Tales of Four Loko

Thanksgiving is over, and it was a big success. I just place on my pot of Turkey Soup and I'm going to sit down having a nice glass of wine. But first I've to give Thanks, I've discovered a lot from your blog in the course of the past year that I have been reading. Your recipes have been the initial I turn to when I need some inspiration. This year for the initial time I cooked my Turkey upside down, only for the initial 1/2, my husband and I flipped it for the second 1/2. (I'm a sucker for that golden brown skin.) It was the most effective turkey ever. I usually make your green beans with walnuts, they were an enormous hit right now too. So today I take a second to say thank you. Thank you, Elise. Your website has created me a far better cook, my loved ones thanks you too.

The legend, Kenny Rogers, amazingly has an appeal to young and old, should be a great show tonight.

Re: “July 31: Lunatic Binge at Hopmonk Tavern

I cannot believe what I am reading about "Lunatic Binge"!!! I am writing from personal experience: I live in Sebastopol, I take medication for bipolar disorder, and another member of my family has scizophrenia. As quoted from the Press Democrat, "the band is sympathetic to the plight of the mentally challenged and some have family members who have suffered". Well, for one, I don't see myself as "mentally challenged" and for two, I just don't buy it. Turning Hopmonk into an insane asylum and giving people a discount on admission if they are dressed as a mental patient??! People please! WAKE UP! Claiming that this is OK because the band raised money for Haiti last year is nonsense. Would the band give people a cheaper admission if they came dressed as Haitians, trapped, starving, fighting for life? Would they find that funny? It feels like the band is using the pain of my family for financial gain and as an incredibly hurtful publicity stunt that they think is funny. So here's a shout out to the band: Please reconsider what you are doing. We all do stupid things, that in hindsight are hurtful. And I hope that NONE of you ever develop a severe mental illness, or find yourself in a psych unit, or have to take horrible life-long medications.

Re: “Sept. 6: MDC at North Bay Film and Art Collective

A billion people on facebook and I have to learn about Kristof's passing this way.. Kristof was also a man of a keen and subltle intellect, politcal insight and served his country proudly for many years in the US Army Special Forces. Although we were not sucessful, It was my great pleaseure to assist him in his effort to break the monopoly of oligarchs and get elected to Petaluma city council in 1988.

Re: “June 19: Joan Baez at Cascade Canyon School

[...] Why, you may ask, is the North Bay Film and Art Collective now called the Arlene Francis Theater? Because her son, Peter Gabel, wanted to name it after his mother. (His dad, Martin Gabel, warn’t no chopped liver, either—he hung out with Orson Welles, starred in Deadline U.S.A. and Marnie, and worked with Billy Wilder.) Gabel and his partner Martin Hamilton have some other ideas for the place, too, involving a cafe and eventually, a seated theater funded by redevelopment money. Hamilton says he wants Joan Baez to play there. It’s probably possible. [...]

Re: “June 26: KRS-One at 19 Broadway Niteclub

There is, indeed, nothing like a krs-one show-- Though, I didn't see this one-- I saw him recently at SOBS in NYC--and he is still rockin' after 20+ years for like 2 hours at a time..with the best live rap show I've ever seen.. He also has an apprentice now named "Greenie"- I read an article that he's "passing the torch" to him--and from the singles I've heard so far, Greenie's album w/ Krs is VERY deep too-- I wonder though if Greenie is gonna hold a live show like Krs can--and get reviews like yours...

Re: “April 11: John Prine at the Wells Fargo Center

I saw him there in (2004?) w/ Mary Gauthier, before Fair & Square came out. I was impressed that the Santa Rosa audience received "Some Humans Ain't Human" very well. This year was great too. Drove 2.5 hours in the rain to get there, and it was worth it.

Pascal's performance tonight at the magical 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley literally brought me to tears. I bought his demo CD, and I will be at Yoshi's this weekend!
