Re: “And the Winner Is . . .

Successful professional actors rule!

Re: “And the Winner Is . . .

I wonder how come they haven't called on some of Sonoma County's most successful home bred actor's to date. There are so many of them that I am sure would really enjoy participating and voting. I can think of quite a few incredibly successful professional actors and actresses that have come out of Sonoma County throughout the years and go one to be in many Broadway Shows that still reside or travel back to Sonoma County often.

Re: “Hidden Agenda

The Author obviously never lifted a finger to read Agenda 21 or do any sort of investigative reporting.... just regurgitating what other people say. No wonder we are being usurped by the New World Order.... If people understood the main goal of the UN is to depopulate the planet and enslave who is left in the end, maybe they would "get it". The ultimate goal may not happen in the immediate future but I would think people would be slightly concerned about their progeny and future generations and resist laying the groundwork for it now. I highly recommend any intelligent person with the courage to admit our government lies and cannot be trusted to give this subject some very serious consideration. The global elite run the United Nations and they want the population down from 7.5B to 500M as shown on the Georgia Guidestones, the "10 Commandments" of the New World Order. They will be your "god" and it will NOT be pretty or even humane... The Eugenics movement is the same people behind this take-over and with Obama's recent Dictatorial behaviour, it is clearly they are closing in on our freedoms to condition us to be under their control.

What is the quote the movie title is based on? Which poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins is it in?

Re: “And the Winner Is . . .

It was surprising to read the negative comment posted by Reality Check. Those comments were so, so negative and so against the efforts which the SOTAs make to bring the community together, if for one single evening during the year. All great projects begin as a small seed with an idea. To criticize the criteria for membership or anything else at this time is ridiculous because all of those things are things that develop with time and with the help of people who unite to the project to make it better. I should remind you that this is but the fifth year of the SOTAs. To celebrate and recognize, what is during the year, hard, exhausting work and dedication by so many wonderful artists in Sonoma County, is not something to be criticized but supported. Briano has the right idea here and the spirit and I wholeheartedly support him in his efforts. Rather than criticize the SOTAs, united in mediocracy should do a reality check on himself and his attitude. If you don't like what you see, involve yourself and help fix it, help make it better rather then to sit behind a computer and cover the project with a dark cloud.

Re: “And the Winner Is . . .

Dear TheaterGoer,

You sound like someone who is guilty that they actually didn't make it to see much theater outside of SSU last year. Craven said that she doubted that "MANY SSU students" made it out after acknowledging that schedules make it difficult to for local theater artists to see others work. Frankly the rest of your post is ridiculous - to attack Mrs. Lichenstein and Mrs. Craven, and say that they are what is wrong with North Bay Theater shows your ignorance and your lack of respect for two women who are frankly responsible for 2 theaters remaining open in Sonoma County - theaters that constantly put on work that is completely "legitimate" in the eyes of the Bay Area theater. But I'm sure that you give up much of your time for free to keep a non-profit open, right TheaterGoer?

And finally, it would be good to point out that an awards ceremony does little to "unite" people. Especially this morning, the local community is awash with how ridiculous this years nominees are... The SOTA's are not leading to unity, they are leading to another forum, like the complete bullshit "Broadway Bay Area Awards", where there is no criteria for membership - just a scorecard of how many of your friends can send Briano an email and get a ballot.

United in mediocrity. Bravo indeed.

Re: “Garnet Vineyards

Alison makes some killer wines, and I'd recommend anyone who enjoys Pinot Noir to try her Carneros or Rodgers Creek offerings. At $19/29 respectively, they're both a great deal and display some great flavors.

Re: “Otherwise Occupied

Mister Myers needs to get his head out of his 1,000 acre ranch in LA-LA land and actually GO to Israel and learn the facts of the West Bank "occupation". Why does Israel occupy the West Bank? Because in 1967 five (or six) Arab nations, including Jordan attacked and the Israeli army ended the conflict in six days, gaining in ground not only the West Bank but the Gaza Strip AND the Sinai Desert. Lets talk about who is terrorizing who here...lets talk about why my friends who live in the West Bank, one Moshav over from a Palestinian neighborhood get along with their neighbors yet need to ride in bullet proof buses to get to Jerusalem. Lets talk about the countless attacks, bombs, car bombs etc., carried out over the past 30+ years against Israeli citizens - no military strikes, strikes on weddings, movie theaters and city buses, killing and injuring thousands of Israeli men, women and children as well as tourists and yes, their Arab bredren to boot. Yes - the conflict is ancient. Yes - the Israeli government has been less than fair to their Arab residents. But let's not forget that this country lives in a world of "Code Red", something Mr. Myers and the rest of the cushy USA have no idea about, no clue of the duck and cover existence over there. Soda Stream, as well as other organization in Israel are making in-roads in the social situation between "normal" Arabs/Palestinians and "normal" Israelis. I bought a soda stream recently because I love fizzy water and I too am tired of throwing away plastic bottles. I love my Soda Stream because it represents more than just fizzy water now - it represents even the smallest effort to combine and understand cultures. Mister Myers can't see the forest for the trees here simply because he has been overcome with the PC hippy-dippy "don't murder me" attitude so prevalent in Sonoma County, and garnered and encouraged in an effort to be "right and hip". Mr. Myers needs to study the history and situation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict more thoroughly before denouncing not Israeli even, but JEWISH efforts to start building a bridge. I don't imagine he knows in his soul how important it is for the state of Israel to continue to exist and thrive. One viewing of the film Exodus should be a start. You can rent that on Netflix.

Re: “And the Winner Is . . .

As a SOTA Academy member myself, I can personally say that in just five years, the awards have grown incredibly and are steadily working toward a more professional arena. Even the first year, it wasn't exclusively SSU shows nominated. By year 4, more than 8 theatre companies comprised the nominees. While it's still a growing organization, the hard-working people behind are SOTA including its president are doing a great job, I think of continuing to build and make the show better. The show itself is a piece of theatre and wonderfully honors and recognizes everyone's hard work. There will always be people with something opposing to say about it- that's their opinions and that's perfectly fine. I do hope that the public or other theatre artists can come to show and see what they think about it. It's always a fun night where people from all circles of theatre can meet, greet, share, and share a nice experience.

Re: “And the Winner Is . . .

Curious as to why Craven would doubt that SSU students would see shows outside of SSU. Young actors in Sonoma County make up an incredibly huge part of the theatre scene outside of scholastic environments. It's hers and Lichtenstein's self centered, exclusive and closed mindset that's keeping the North Bay theatre community shut out from the world of legitimate Bay Area theatre. Even though it might not be a perfect model for an awards group, Briano's efforts to be inclusive and celebrate the community are inspiring. And it's not surprising that it's a young person championing unity in our arts community. Much of the most exciting, effective and daring theatre being produced in the North Bay comes from companies that are largely run by folks under 40. I say Bravo.

Re: “American Psychos

Having had a few years membership in NRA I finally decided to just say no to the BS and quit them. All they want is more $$$. I asked them why didn't they ask Bush and Cheney for a few million after they walked out with over 11 billion in war profits from their watch.
I do own a collection of semi auto rifles and WWII combat rifles that are not for hunting. I like to go out and burn off a few clips and I do keep the weapons for self protection. I hunted a lot as a boy until a tour in Vietnam which caused me to swear to never take another life be it animal or human unless it was to save a life, mine or anothers.
I served as a fed LEO for some years and never fired my arms once while on duty. I was with a fellow LEO who shot a unarmed man carrying a surveyors stake he was carving on to make a play sword for his little boy. Officially the guy charged the trigger happy LEO with a sword? Shooter was exonerated from any charges as it was a clean shooting, even though the victim was not wanted on any warrant we went to serve at wrong address. I'll wager money most hunters aren't members of NRA or Tea Party members. We all cannot be John Wayne or Rambo. But some of us did serve our country and experienced what a firearm can do to another human being. I still have nightmares about it. To blame Obama for all the firearms sold to Mexico is a joke. It is a no brainer that firearms dealers on the borders of Texas and Arizona are the real blame. But hey don't go there it is all about American free enterprise, right?

Re: “Deadwood Hwy.

Just because something is legal, doesn't make it right. Legality is a cop-out for when something smells bad, and feels wrong. If it looks bad, and smells bad, then there is something in there that's rotten. Trust your nose.

And just because you were never employed as a contractor, is not a reason to discount someone's opinion on this matter. Those trees belonged to the public, period. What their value is relative to the size of the project does not diminish their importance, nor does it diminish the stench, public or private.
