Re: “Brush to Judgment

I've come to the conclusion that the new Boho editors are soft on environmental issues and lazy about doing their homework. Fluoride in drinking water has been proven to be detrimental to our health. The local gov't should not be forcing it on us. End of story.
At present, 97% of the western European population drinks non-fluoridated water. This includes: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and approximately 90% of both the United Kingdom and Spain. Think they're onto something?

Re: “Brush to Judgment

New US Study Links Fluoridation to ADHD

"Artificial water fluoridation prevalence was significantly positively associated with ADHD prevalence," according to research published in Environmental Health (2/15),

This is the first study to examine the relationship between exposure to fluoridated water and ADHD prevalence.

Artificial fluoride chemicals (hydrofluosilicic acid) added to public water supplies attempt to match the perceived decay-preventing effects of natural calcium fluoride. But teeth require calcium – not fluoride.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common childhood disorder. Symptoms include difficulty paying attention, controlling behavior, and hyperactivity.

Researchers, Malin and Till, conclude that, even after controlling for socio-economic-status, their findings suggest that fluoridated water may be an environmental risk factor for ADHD.

They write, fluoride "has received virtually no attention in the ADHD literature, [even though], there is a burgeoning body of human and animal research indirectly suggesting that it may contribute to the disorder's onset."

This ADHD/fluoride study comes on the heels of a British study linking fluoride to thyroid disease.

Malin and Till write "exposure to fluoridated water may contribute to ADHD via suppression of the thyroid gland."

We've been falsely assured that the science is settled on fluoridation safety. But studies such as this one were never done before. What else have they failed to research? What's worse is that government agencies seem to dismiss research that hurts fluoridation rather than protect the citizens whose health is entrusted to them.

Researchers Malin and Till explain that children and adults living in fluoridated communities (0.7 – 1.2 mg/L) actually received 0.9 – 3.6 mg and 0.6 – 6.6 mg of fluoride per day, respectively from all sources, including water, food and dental products.

They write "Fluoride can readily cross the placenta, accumulate in the infant brain and easily exert neurotoxic effects…Such changes can adversely affect arousal and attention, pain tolerance, and learning and memory, respectively."

"Importantly, among children who were exposed environmentally to water fluoridated at 1.2 – 3 mg/L (slightly above the US recommended level), increased urinary fluoride concentrations were associated with slower reaction time and poorer visuospatial organization that could interfere with attention, and reading and writing respectively," they write.

With fluoride linked to lower IQ, and ADHD in children and hypothyroidism in adults, it is reckless to continue fluoridation - especially since ingesting fluoride delivers risks without any benefits. Fluoride hardens teeth by topical means alone and in high concentrations - as in toothpaste.

Re: “Cosby Conundrum

Cosby's show has been indefinitely postponed! But Kyle from Wells Fargo Center for the Arts said to the Press Democrat that only 50 people contacted him. Kyle knows of our petition with over 4,300 signatures. How disingenuous! The people who signed this petition and all the others who made calls etc. know they have made a difference even though WFCFTA will not acknowledge that fact. Shame on them!

Re: “Cosby Conundrum

don't buy a ticket that is the best way to shut down the event. the venue is in the market to make money not loose it. If any one can not fill the house no one will produce him the term boycott comes to mind and if you really want the show gone boycott all shows at the venue and see how fast things change.

Re: “Cosby Conundrum

Thank you for writing this article. A friend of mine has gathered over 3700 signatures for a petition to stop Cosby's appearance. The list is growing and this is one show that should NOT go on.

I personally feel a bit boons-waggled by the Barlow. The majority of the offerings are booze related. I was under the impression it was to be more of a mixed craftsmen "tour, sample and learn" area.

Re: “Game Over

There's a reason why foie gras production has been outlawed in more than a dozen countries: It's an abomination. Anyone who cares about animals should leave foie gras off their plate.

Re: “Game Over

Investigations of foie gras farms have revealed ducks dying because their organs ruptured from overfeeding and birds suffering from kidney necrosis, spleen damage, bruised and broken bills, and tumor-like lumps in their throats. And of course, the birds must be slaughtered for foie gras, so unless they are going cheerfully and willingly to their deaths, there is no way it can be considered anything but cruel.

Re: “Game Over

If foie gras was "natural", it would just be called foie. The gras comes from overfeeding them until their livers become diseased and swell to up to 10 times the normal size, which is categorically cruel.

There's nothing unbeautiful about any body on the face of this planet. God made those bodies, therefore there’s nothing ugly underneath your clothing. If you're looking to ease your way into the nudist lifestyle, nudist resorts , nudist beaches and nudist dating site (Google localnudistsingle com) are available that offer a slightly less adventurous experience.
