Adrienne, Thanks for catching that errant editing of Julie Combs' full name and that she is a Santa Rosa city council member. It's been corrected in the online version. Thanks to everyone else for their comments.
I am concerned for the tenants, as I am one, and the landlords who after years of seeing property values fall are now faced with large increases in property taxes, water, trash etc. however, all that being said we need to be mindful of the people who live here, who want to raise their families here, and our seniors. They work here and spend their money here. If people are being driven out because the wages are too low to pay the rents then tax revenue falls, businesses fail because they don't have people to work or buy. It is not us against them. It is our community. Our village!

Sonoma county was built on backs of the immigrant poor! Your vineyard, cellars folks of the great wine country that is Sonoma County....is pushing out the folks who still make this county great for the greedy transplants to take over with ridiculous rents. Silly people you are certainly shooting yourselfs in foot. I have an idea! Pay the people a living wage that they, we deserve!
Wow, really, Vickie French? This area still needs teachers, janitors, and food service workers. Should they all commute from Tracy. Good thing you're older - you'd NEVER make it as a young person starting out today. And that's not right.
Maybe you landlords should be more reasonable, and don't cry about your 'return on investment' when many of you own multiple properties worth millions. Though your money buys you a lot of political influence, the tide is turning against you, and there will be rent control and tougher eviction laws. Why should you be able to evict anyone for any reason, if they haven't broken any terms of their lease and paid their rent in timely fashion? If you want to throw people out on the street so you can refurbish a unit and then charge considerably more in rent for it, you should be obligated to pay moving expenses and relocation fees for the current tenant. So, a 'Just-Cause' eviction law protecting good tenants from greedy and unscrupulous landlords is definitely in order. There are many creative and innovative ways to provide affordable housing with the right policies. We can change many regulations, fees, and zoning laws, to allow easier construction of affordable housing, so it doesn't take years and tens of millions of dollars to accomplish, There are also many older, dilapidated, and existing commercial properties which can be converted to housing, with changes in zoning regulations.
*Have to leave this area,'move inland or out of CA'
Vicki S. French, why should people born and raised in this area or whom have resided here for decades because of the greed of you and your developer, real-estate speculator, and landlord friends for ever more profit?
"Combs" refers to Julie Combs, Santa Rosa Council member. Please add this information to the article.
Our community belongs to all who live in it, not only those who happen to own the land and the houses. It's clear that we will are forcing low income people out of the county. That's bad for all of us and for the environment. I support strong rent control.
The rents are high because of the increased costs to the landlord: taxes, garbage and water rates (when they are paid by landlord), insurance costs and the cost of labor to make repairs. Manna doesn't just fall from heaven you know. Banks give you no return on your savings in today's world so you are always robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak. Perhaps some landlords are greedy but most are just trying to cover their butts because owning investment property comes with increased risk today. Often tenants don't hold up their end of the bargain and want to create their own rules which often leads to trouble. They don't really 'GET IT" that they are merely paying for rented space that is not theirs. I'd say get over the prices folks, we live in a high priced and affluent area of the country. It's not like living in the Midwest or the South where rents are considerably lower. If you want lower rents move inland and out of CA. That's my take and I have been a landlord for over 30 years, and no, I'm not a slumlord nor am I in the upper income bracket.
Friends and admirers of Scalia think you are a "maggot tool" and that you should eat some "mo' goat log". And by goat log, I mean goat shit.
Coming up with the most insulting anagram of a dead person's name sounds like a "moot goal, g."
Few know my story about my long connection to Feinstein, her husband, his investment groups and the capital markets.
This person is highly deceptive with my story. The hard part - they murdered my relatives a family of five, they also killed my roommate, my gal friend and her daughter in 2005, and the list is over 50 deaths.
There is big little secret around the country - a mad dash to take over Military Bases known as Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) that leads to my posting here
Accenture, Blum, DoD, Rumsfeld and Cheney were in SF just after the San Bruno Explosion - when you visit my blogs you find why I know how they blew up Line 132, killed 8, killed 5 in Walnut Creek and how it links to the Nurse and School Bus accidents.
Everything is staged and likely by the unions
I followed the money and found this
The majority of people who went to the January 9th meeting, over 200 residents and the majority of residents that filled out the online survey, around 400, made it clear that we demand our heritage trees to stay in the square! But the City Coucil seems to think that putting in more parking is more important than trees or taxpayer opinions. Not only will this kill carbon sequestration but also cause traffic chaos in downtown. Residents NEED to come to the January 26 meeting and let their voices heard. Even if you could care less about the Reunification of Old Courthouse Square you should know that if you drive in Santa Rosa you will be effected by the decisions made. Please come and insist on the City Council to make positive decisions for Santa Rosa's future and not more money exchanges within the "boys club".
Memorial will send their uninsured, and homeless to Sonoma West Hospital. They will not be abe to survive with the government paying 35 cents on the dollar of a hospital bill. I hear taps playing in the distance. RIP
Maybe its time for the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to reduce the Sheriff's Dept budget for cannabis "enforcement" actions.
I am a victim of mayhem, torture, attempted murder. Upon 10/04/2011@ Chanate Rd. Santa Rosa, Ca.
I am paralyzed for life.
Kaiser of Santa Rosa, Ca. refuses to "take me out."
I am unable to stop suffering from pain and loss of moving my arms from Judge Brad DeMeo's "hit" for the "as promised" added to the Oakmont located, Clyde and Helen Greco Family Trust.
Billionaires' Clyde and Helen Greco left a substantial "paper trail" while their daughter Caren Greco defrauded me of retirement savings over $400,00. This was from offshore injuries at the New Guerneville Bridge of 10/03/1996.
Beginning back in the early mid-1970's; the Greco's and DeMeo defrauded the Sonoma County taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars thru fraud. The Christian Life Center (Wells Fargo Center) was defaulted in loan of their million dollars from the Clyde and Helen Greco Trust Fund and Cle-Len Mgt. Inc..
They followed "Italy practices" of only recording real estate at one half value as often as available. They are all criminals in attempted murder.

No, it's not about "having choices," although that is what "Compassion and Choices" (formerly The Hemlock Society) wants you to believe. It is about (1) relieving insurers from the cost of your care when you get sick; and (2) immunizing doctors who play along from prosecution, both for murder as well as the making of a false record.
The "protections" this law provides against undue influence over a vulnerable person are wholly illusory. I happen to be Brittany Maynard's aunt, Alison Maynard. I have requested all records required by Oregon law to be created in connection with her suicide, including her written request for the drug; attestation of competency; and diagnosis that the patient has less than six months to live by two doctors, and been denied all of them, on grounds of "privacy." Thus, not even a close relative such as an aunt can obtain assurance the law was followed.
Of course, the lack of these records has led me to another conclusion: that Brittany's "suicide" is a hoax. She is, in fact, a prankster, and there is abundant other evidence, including that the woman holding the framed photo in the picture above is not Brittany, but some model; that it is not legal, under Oregon's law, to obtain the initial terminal diagnosis in another state, then move to Oregon to get the drug; that there is a CURE for the Glioblastoma multiforme tumor, as "60 Minutes" showcased in its March 27th, 2015, edition; that Brittany's uncle is in military intelligence; that the Maynards--my side of the family--were not notified of her marriage, cancer diagnosis, or plan to kill herself, learning about it all from the mass media along with the rest of the world; that there was no funeral; and more. My blog post setting forth my findings is at: therealcolorado.blogspot.com/2015/02/brittany-maynard-my-undead-niece.html.
The article above makes new points about physician-assisted suicide--and is a good one. For the most part, there has simply been hype planted all over the country by C&C, which is funded by George Soros, framing assisted suicide as a "health care option" and a "civil rights measure." It is neither. Brittany's "suicide" was simply the latest in a series of tragedies being staged in this country--with the mass media's full collusion--to advance public policy.
In 1997, Oregon was the first state to pass a “Death with Dignity” Law. It’s a good law, but over 17 years (1998-2014) only 859 people in Oregon took the lethal medication. In fact, 35% of the people who filled the prescription decided not to take the lethal medication.
I’m glad the law is there. It’s an option I might use depending upon my diagnosis. But I’m not going to limit my family's choices and make that our only option.
If I have a stroke the paralysis could require me to need assistance 24/7. Even though I’d be physically handicapped, I could still enjoy the company of my children and grandchildren.
I’ve been a full-time caregiver for a stroke victim. Although it was a very rewarding experience, it was a burden I will not place on anyone in my family.
That’s why my wife and I own LTC insurance. If I become disabled my wife will not have to deplete our savings in order to pay for someone to care for me; nor will she have to risk her own health by trying to get me in and out of the tub and on and off the toilet. We’ll hire the home health aides and send the bill to the insurance company. The emotional burden on her will be hard enough. I don’t want to add the financial uncertainty on top of that.
It’s all about having choices and maximizing our options.
