Wanted to write the Bohemian, there are a few more big food producers hiding behind organic names, that they didn't include.. spectrum, hain celestial, some of newmans own, which have gmo ingredients, companies you would never suspect but it is sadly true. Im in vote for the National Labeling Campaign!! :) ...and Hello to you Sheperd :) Yes the Grange is a special place for me too! keep up the good work.
The Grange is indeed growing, here in Sebastopol, and throughout California, as this article indicates. I joined in 2010 and find it a rewarding and fun group to be a part of. We meet at the Grange Hall on Highway 12 on the last Tuesday of each month, starting with a potluck--great food--followed by a meeting. We are open to all. The Grange, which I used to attend at our family farm in Iowa in the middle of the 20th century, is a very family-friendly organization. People of all ages are welcome. Check it out.
I love to walk, I ride a bicycle and ride a scooter regularly and have never been harrassed in 25 years as referenced in this article.
Every year hundreds of good intentions are translated into new codes, rules and regulations. Unfortunately good intentions also obey the law of unintended consequences. Let me give you an example. In the 90's I participated for years in a homeless feeding program in San Francisco at the Civic Center on Sundays. One day (to help) we decided to let all the people with crutches and canes go to the front of the line without having to wait. Well within 3 weeks the numbers of people with canes and crutches more than tripled from before.
When we ask for new laws we very rarely see how they play themselves out over the years in real life. In many cases they create as many problems as they solve. We need to find wiser and saner ways to deal with our issues rather than want to regulate everything.
now that we elected the better guy -- time to let him know what we think of his behavior. You know Jerry Garcia (the great philosopher) once said when you choose the lesser of two evils, you're still choosing EVIL.
well since all news agencies are pushing their own agendas, i doubt that this 1 well ether.
An endowed chair? Really? "The purpose of the endowed chair is to foster greater understanding of the Native American culture and communities of California. This endowed chair was made possible through the $2.5 million donation from the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria."
Building a casino wouldn't have been on the minds of getting him his endowment now would it?
Roseland is the Washington, D.C. of Santa Rosa. Everyone knows Roseland is where it's at, but nobody wants it to vote.
"If minorities are already well-represented in Santa Rosa, then why can't parents in the city's most predominantly Latino neighborhood get a simple crosswalk painted on the road in front of their children's school?"
Stop spreading the hate and division. Replace the word "minority" with "White" and you'll see the stupidity of your ideas. Is there some reason the parents can't lay two boards down and spray white paint between them to make a solid white line then pick the boards up and move them five feet and repeat it again? That's what we did at our school in a White neighborhood.
As a native of San Francisco, now here, I have seen district elections make San Francisco a laughing stock and a place where not only is there no consensus but you have the most corrosive parochialism at work.
"This is a Black District" This is a White District", this district is "reserved for a Latino."
Don't do it! I am voting no on Q and you should too.
The family Mr. Sarris claims to be his has, according to the matriarch of the family Velia Navarro, no Native American blood at all. He is not an Indian. The stories Mr. Sarris has told about Ms. Navarro's family, including her beloved great grandmother and grandmother, are patently untrue and deeply offensive to the family. The casino project is an environmental catastrophe, which no amount of money will be able to put right. It has destroyed sensitive vernal wetlands habitat and the genetically unique Sonoma County Tiger Salamanders unfortunate enough to live on the casino footprint site. No other developer would have been able to build on this land, which was set aside as critical habitat for the salamander before casino construction began. No payments to the county will be made until 2014, if at all, as the tribe does not have to pay if it does not make enough profit. The tribe does not have to allow independent audits, including by state officials, to determine if it has made enough profit. These are all facts, and all verifiable.
I live in Roseland, and the new elementary school, Roseland Creek, has a nice bike path all the way through the West side -- so it's perplexing that the other school can't get a crosswalk painted. One thing I've noticed since moving here -- from Marin county -- is that helicopters fly over our side of the city almost NON stop. Lots of times they fly low, with search lights, and really disturb the peace. What is up with them polluting our airspace with noise, and cops constantly up and down the streets. They SHOULD allow us a district representative, because they sure see Roseland as an area in their jurisdiction. When it comes to cracking down, they're all over Roseland. Sure, we have our share of crime, but after four years here, what I see is hard-working families like ourselves, just trying to make a good life for our kids in Santa Rosa.
On the surface this seems like something I'd support but the more I think about it, it's seems like a NO vote from me. Here's why:
-If you're not a deadbeat with the cheapo insurance like the General or Freeway, seriously how often do you really ever switch insurance companies? My parents have had AAA since 1974 and I've had the same insurance since I graduated from college. Other than the company being bought by Nazis, I don't know what will cause me to switch considering I'm happy with them,
-I've been hit too many times by deadbeats without insurance. Anything that makes it more expensive for these people, I'm against.

It is an excellent essay regarding hunting. This article is very much interesting.I like it.
It's easy to grow a lot of your own food once you have a garden established. Things like arugula, lettuce, berries and other vegetables can be grown wherever a lawn thrives. Goggle "how to grow food" for ideas on creating a garden.
I think those brown people would prefer not to work among poisons. Higher incidences of health problems, in particular birth defects, are one of the reasons Cesar Chavez spoke out in favor of organics. Their working conditions should be better in many ways but this benefit, in addition to the pesticide and herbicide runoff into water, were ignored by the Stanford study and New York article. After reading the times article my first question, as it should always be in this age of budget cuts to desperate universities, was "who funded it?". Thanks for letting me know.
Kamala Harris hasn't done squat. Her "Bill of Rights" is basically lifted whole cloth from New York State Attorney General Schneiderman's bill.
She is desperate to join the Obama Administration which as everyone knows is in bed with the banks and Wall Street. She is a phony Democrat in Name only and will whatever it takes to keep her name in the press and pretend like she's doing something real. Look at the details of her bill and then decide if it's effective.
What's needed is a serious Occupy-type movement to take back the foreclosed houses and maintain them in better shape than could the foreclosing banks.
Also, hedge fund bloc purchased properties should be squatted by locals in a clean, organized and socially useful manner. This has to be an organized and viable movement, not degenerate into a bunch of homeless trashing these places and creating photo ops for the financial powers that be.
Glad that you are censoring people's thoughts and their choices of websites in this "alternative media journal." Nothing like an ad-hominem attack on a person and his business to show your fairness and tolerance.
Keri Brenner's favorite boogeyman is her problem. Don't lower your paper to the level of some Stalinist witch hunt.
This journal has the promise of becoming a fine local newspaper that people turn to for news and information. Don't let it turn into a blaring mouthpiece for some trust-fund witch hunter like her. You owe the Hungarian guy and his business an apology and maybe a free ad to make up for attacking him.
Leilani Clark.... you are a traitor to America... probably bought and paid for, or did you happen to go to one of those parties, you know, they take your photo while you are committing despicable acts? They either own you or you are incredibly stupid, in either case you would do the world a favor if you resigned and started to read and study. People like you who sell out and 'trade with the enemy' are nothing more than brown shirt boot lickers and a disgrace to humanity. How much are they paying you to ruin America? I guess you love something, money... and what is so sad, you have no idea, once your job is done by screwing your community, you will be ground down like the rest of us, because your handlers and their ilk think you are just as worthless as the rest of us. Get real, grow up, and use your brain. You are only a dumb slave, so don't let your ego trick you into thinking you are more than that.
The arguments in support of the ballot measure to abolish the death penalty are exaggerated at best and, in most cases, misleading and erroneous. Proposition 34 is being funded primarily by a wealthy, left-wing company out of Chicago, the ACLU, and similarly-oriented trust funds. It includes provisions that would only make our prisons less safe for both other prisoners and prison officials and significantly increase the costs to taxpayers due to life-time medical costs, the increased security required to coerce former death-row inmates to work, etc. The amount “saved” in order to help fund law enforcement is negligible and only for a short period of time. Bottom line, the “SAFE” Act is an attempt by those who are responsible for the high costs and lack of executions to now persuade voters to abandon it on those grounds. Obviously, these arguments would disappear if the death penalty was carried forth in accordance with the law. Get the facts at and supporting evidence at http://cadeathpenalty.webs.com and http://waiting4justice.org/.
We have to fight the box! and Monsanto! bringing in chain stores would only make gmos more available! what about community gardens in these areas?? guidelines on stores in areas like these and on what they need to carry to be open?there are so many other guidelines they have to go by already to have the license they have, so why not? wtf? were gunna give the go ahead for shit like walmart but not try an bring our community together and plant a garden on all that land?? WAKE UP!!!! two wrongs dont make a right!!
If they didn't do it here, they would do it some where else. These people can meet behind closed doors all the time. they can have concealed meeting with each other on secure networks all day long. That most of these men shape the world we live in and happen to be in the same place is just because they can.
If the 99% really want the change the way business is conducted don't do business with anything these guys touch. Oh wait I'm on a computer. I need to the get to the grocery store. I need to eat food and feed my family. And the list will go on.
If your decision to do all these thing with a high mind to only consume those things you know what's in them and where they come from, then your doing your part. Yelling a staff going to work at an elite male only camp does nothing for any cause. Unless your into primal scream therapy.
