Where's the rest of the article? Missing last 10 paragraphs, about 1/3 of the piece. Please add the rest, this article is important and still relevant. Thanks!

Re: “The Big Winners

POINTS TO PONDER:

"To quite an extent, gambling is a tax on ignorance. I find it socially revolting when the government preys on the ignorance of its citizenry. When the government makes it easy for people to take their Social Security checks and pull [slot machine] handles, it relieves taxes on those who don't fall for it. It's not government at its best."

"No one in the history of mankind has ever developed or operated a casino out of a burning desire to improve the lot of humanity." -Chuck Gardner, Former Nevada Deputy Attorney General

Re: “The Big Winners

Neither Mr. Worthington nor Ms. Montgomery live near the casino any more than any resident of the Rohnert Park area does. Everyone in Rohnert Park is within about three miles of the casino.

The casino money to the county and cities is voodoo economics at its worst. It has been demonstrated that for every $46 in revenue given to a community by a casino, the actual costs to the community are about $248. This is for increased costs to the justice system, the social welfare system, lost productivity and more. Do the math to determine how much Sonoma County will lose from this casino.

Even financial wizards like Warren Buffet and Donald Trump know that gambling isn't good for the economy and they're on the record about it.

In California, by 2007, there were an estimated 1.2 million gambling addicts, "300,000, or about 30 percent, more than before voters approved Proposition 1A in 2000 to allow Las Vegas-class gambling on Indian lands in California, according to figures compiled over the past decade by the state attorney general’s office and the California Council on Problem Gambling." See "(Not so) Fun Gambling Facts at http://www.stopthecasino101.com/id116.html

Ignorance isn't bliss when it comes to casinos.

Re: “The Big Winners

Greg Sarris claim to Indian identity has been declared false by the very family through which he claims Indian ancestry. That's right. His own family outed him. His third cousin, to be exact. Her name is Velia Navarro, she lives in the Los Angeles area, and she has provided a Sworn declaration that her family has NO Indian blood. Her oral history of her family and the vital records she has in her possession confirm the research done in 2010, which was extensive. You can hear Velia's own words at http://www.stopthecasino101.com/id147.html and see actual historical documents that prove it.

Re: “The Big Winners

None of the 254 acres currently held by the federal government is "sovereign" tribal land. It is state land, and subject state law - that's according to settled case law in California. There will be a trial on this matter on August 2, 2013. If the court agrees that the casino site is state land, the casino will not be allowed to open. You can find more at www.stopthecasino101.com

And why is there no mention of the fact that this entire area is critical habitat for the highly endangered tiger salamander? Anyone wishing to build anything will have to do a 2 year CEQA study.

Re: “The Big Winners

Has anyone asked members of the tribe what benefits they get, after all the millions in "payoffs" to management, city, county, state, federal governments. What will the average tribal member get. I only see 8 million in health care benefits mentioned and if that is like other "government indian healthcare/VAcare" it makes one wonder.

Re: “Grocery Squeeze

How is this area a "food desert"? Lola's, Costco and Trader Joe's are all found along this stretch.

Re: “Who's Responsible?

Thank goodness the a California Appeals Court finally issued a ruling that might eventually end-up protecting care givers of the frail, disabled, and elderly, not only in Sonoma County California, but State wide.

Re: “Scientology Slam

Thanks for the comment, Steven. You are correct, the library slam was the the predecessor of the NBPS. It was mentioned in the article as Brianna's first slam, which later created energy for another regularly-occurring slam. It's a shame that its funding was cut. I went to one years back and it was well-attended. Moral of the story, stop cutting budgets from literary programs, especially libraries.

Re: “Scientology Slam

From the article:
"In fact, two monthly slams have started as a result of the NPBS, one at Santa Rosa's Arlene Francis Center (International House of Poetry, hosting its next slam March 15) and one at Cotati's Redwood Cafe (the Barnburner Slam, hosting its next slam March 12). "
-
I am not so sure about the accuracy of this statement. I am sure that Jake Ward, who is a Co-Founder of International House of Poetry at the Arlene Francis Center, a friend, and a Co-Castmember of mine on televsion's Eat The Fish Presents, was helping B-Sage with the North Bay Poetry slam when she was just getting started.
-
This article seams to imply that the whole north bay poetry scene stemmed from the Northbay Poetry Slam, when in fact, was this not all a result of the the poetry slams thrown at the Sonoma County Library?

Re: “Hidden Agenda

The Author obviously never lifted a finger to read Agenda 21 or do any sort of investigative reporting.... just regurgitating what other people say. No wonder we are being usurped by the New World Order.... If people understood the main goal of the UN is to depopulate the planet and enslave who is left in the end, maybe they would "get it". The ultimate goal may not happen in the immediate future but I would think people would be slightly concerned about their progeny and future generations and resist laying the groundwork for it now. I highly recommend any intelligent person with the courage to admit our government lies and cannot be trusted to give this subject some very serious consideration. The global elite run the United Nations and they want the population down from 7.5B to 500M as shown on the Georgia Guidestones, the "10 Commandments" of the New World Order. They will be your "god" and it will NOT be pretty or even humane... The Eugenics movement is the same people behind this take-over and with Obama's recent Dictatorial behaviour, it is clearly they are closing in on our freedoms to condition us to be under their control.

Re: “American Psychos

Having had a few years membership in NRA I finally decided to just say no to the BS and quit them. All they want is more $$$. I asked them why didn't they ask Bush and Cheney for a few million after they walked out with over 11 billion in war profits from their watch.
I do own a collection of semi auto rifles and WWII combat rifles that are not for hunting. I like to go out and burn off a few clips and I do keep the weapons for self protection. I hunted a lot as a boy until a tour in Vietnam which caused me to swear to never take another life be it animal or human unless it was to save a life, mine or anothers.
I served as a fed LEO for some years and never fired my arms once while on duty. I was with a fellow LEO who shot a unarmed man carrying a surveyors stake he was carving on to make a play sword for his little boy. Officially the guy charged the trigger happy LEO with a sword? Shooter was exonerated from any charges as it was a clean shooting, even though the victim was not wanted on any warrant we went to serve at wrong address. I'll wager money most hunters aren't members of NRA or Tea Party members. We all cannot be John Wayne or Rambo. But some of us did serve our country and experienced what a firearm can do to another human being. I still have nightmares about it. To blame Obama for all the firearms sold to Mexico is a joke. It is a no brainer that firearms dealers on the borders of Texas and Arizona are the real blame. But hey don't go there it is all about American free enterprise, right?
