What makes you think that Sebastopol's traffic would be significantly affected by the opening of a 2nd location of an amazing, local, sustainable, organic, NPO retailer? The population of Sebastopol won't necessarily rise. If anything, the traffic should be more evenly distributed as consciously influenced shoppers flock from, or divide between, the City's most highly impacted junction where Whole Foods, the corporate underdog of the story, resides.
If any difference in traffic should incur, Sebastopol should see an easement in traffic as devout patrons of Community Market's (CM) Santa Rosa location are enabled to shop locally, thus minimizing their need to commute to Santa Rosa.
What shops in downtown Sebastopol are you concerned that CM's operation will negatively affect? Are you inferring that the supposed increase in traffic would cause people to U-turn half way to their destination, thereby avoiding said businesses or that the breadth of goods sold at CM would encompass some of the specialty items sold in those shops?
Perhaps an agreement could be made between CM and local specialty shops, barring the sales of candles, incense, vintage clothing, and crystals? Then everybody wins!
and don't forget the wonderful homemade pies!
You, Yes You, great arttcile but did you really need to use that word, do you know the ten commandment, did it really do anything for you when it rolled off the tip of your tounge or when it flew off your keyboard , I know for me all it did was make me lose rececpt for you, pissing people off like me you have a standing in this communty and if its ok for you to do this every other brain dead person can do it, Thy shall not use Gods name in vain, try replacing the D with a T then you wont. PS can't wait to try the tacos
It's cool to be cool!! Congratulations!!You are great!!
I'm wondering how the traffic will be handled. When I come in from Santa Rosa after 3:00 on Rt. 12 there's already lots of traffic. Also, what will happen to our wonderful shops in downtown Sebastopol? Is there a city plan to support and help those businesses continue to thrive? I do like the central idea of the Barlow in my community but I care about the welfare of all of Sebastopol. Thanks for having a space to post. Diane Marie
Love, love, love this place! Everything is great, and John and Francesca are two of the nicest people! Their Chicken Limoncello is the bomb!
Tiny caveat: Apparently pitchers aren't actually allowed out on the patio at Russian River (for good reasons I won't get into). Pints of Blonde instead! -Ken
What a well written story with a compelling narrative voice!
Interesting article. I'm for anything that would diminish the consumption of fatty, artery clogging foods which result in illness and medical expense. Slaughtering animals is also not high on my list of priorities for having a good time. The force feeding and limited exercise edured by ducks before their slaughter for this little treat is outrageous. I'm not aware of an underground market for veal so I'm hoping the predictions along those lines regarding foie gras will prove unfounded. Kudos to Miss Abrahams for an informative and thought provoking article.
Another example of man's inhumanity to our fellow creatures. As always we use animals for food, for entertainment, and for the work we need done. Snooty Chefs catering to Snooty Foodies. Pathetic, but very well written article.
Another inhumane example of how man uses animals for his own greed, entertainment, or to plow, haul, or whatever they can think of for a horse. Fluff food for snooty Chefs to serve to their foodie snooty customers.
the writer's title is very clever and self contained as it suggests the corporate greed being the determination to keep serving this non-delicacy.
Great article, love the way in which Ms. Abrahams utilizes parody in the great tradition of Swift and Twain, in order to underscore the absolute brutality involved in producing foie gras.
If the quality of the meat is dictated by how poorly the animal was treated in life, then we, as a civilized country, need to outlaw said meat.
Bravo to to Ms. Abrahams for calling attention to the greed which sustains such a inhumane practice. Ironic that we call such cuisine "delicate" when the creation of such is anything but.
There will be a tremendous backlash from animal activists and organizations to the foie gras black market. To quote Bryan Pease, co-founder of the Animal Protection and Rescue League of San Diego, "If we find somebody still serving that product, the gloves are going to come off and we’ll use every legal means available to shut that place down, including lawsuits, protests and boycotts. There’s just no reason to allow restaurants to do business in California that flout the law and torture animals for a table treat."
Not only is chia good for you, but eating Navitas Naturals chia seed is good for the local economy. Based in Novato, Navitas offers chia seed and other organic superfoods. Navitas is growing and supporting new jobs. http://www.navitasnaturals.com/products/ch…
I make something everyday! Create! Build! Love! Love!
Nice Kev. Looking forward to seeing it in a bottle room soon.
What an absolute insult to those of us "foodies" who call Novato - and specifically Hamilton Field - home. I am appalled that you believe a strip mall in a great town in Marin isn't worthy of great fare akin to what you'd find in Mill Valley or San Francisco. Writers like you should then stay away and let us locals enjoy this little gem.
Re: “Nosh Out”
Rather than 11-8pm, we are going to open from 8-5pm Th-Sat and 9-2 on Sunday. We apologize for the switch around!! We saw that people were coming earlier the last couple of weekends. The Noshery will open later once we get our beer/wine license early next year.
