Re: “Garnet Vineyards

Alison makes some killer wines, and I'd recommend anyone who enjoys Pinot Noir to try her Carneros or Rodgers Creek offerings. At $19/29 respectively, they're both a great deal and display some great flavors.

Re: “Vermeil Wines

"but he comes out during harvest to tool around on a tractor and catch the Calistoga Speedway's"
Neat, upon what property is running a tractor?
Is he a part-time owner operator of a modest vineyard?
Are they making money from working for his father, twice?
Or does he has ownership of this business in Calistoga.
And is it solvent?
Beautiful Calistoga building with natural light and space on the corner.

Re: “Ram's Gate Winery

I have been to Ram's Gate at least once every few months since they opened. Really spectacular winery, with great ambiance. Unlike some others that serve small plates, their food is prepared by an in house chef and far surpasses the usual crackers and nibbles you might get. You'd expect this place to be stuffy/snobby, but there's none of that. http://www.ramsgatewinery.com

Re: “Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery

What a load of BS.

People that opposed the tasting room project won't soon forget the Schwartz's veiled threats of "turning people in for illegal structures" because of their opposition- nor the pompous blight that initiated it.

So please, drink Fort Ross wine... and be sure to toast all the little people that the Schwartz family stepped on to get there. South Africa may be the capital of blood-diamonds... and Fort-Ross is now the capital of bad-blood wine. Enjoy!

Re: “Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery

Hi James,
I do enjoy the spry wit of your writing style. I laughed so much when I read the article on the "lavishly spartan" Fort Ross Tasting Room. Lester is still disputing which one of us reminded you of a Berkeley Social Studies Professor... Besides the polished prose, I did appreciate your gracious comments about our wine. Do let me have your email address. Both of us were card-less when we met. I hope that you will come back to visit us when you are in the area.
Best wishes,

Re: “VJB Estate

We have a vacation rental in Kenwood and recently stopped by the newly completed VJB. What a treat! The grounds are amazing, taking us a bit back to some small palazzo in Italy. The pizza and gelato were excellent and the friendly staff, as always, extremely helpful. This will be a regular stop for us with the amazing atmosphere, people, wines and now, larger selection of food! We are very pleased with the outcome of the project and hope they live long and prosper.

Re: “Atascadero Creek

Come and select from Bob's wonderful variety of unique West County flavors at The Wineyard in Santa Rosa- where you can drink like a local!

Re: “K-J Goes Undercover

I heard the owner of that winery treated ALL of the employees- from the #2 down- like total dogs. That's why it's framed around the figurehead- he was rumored to be a megalomaniac who'd fire his underlings EVERY few years even (especially?) those at the very top just to keep everyone on their toes and was ALWAYS looking to squeeze the workers harder and harder and run the business so lean everyone felt under constant threat. Let's hope the new president- and the current heirs to the former head's estate- are not as despicable.

Re: “Wine Guerrilla

Love wine Guerrilla zins. Glad they are getting the press they deserve.
