Our loss, Gabe, you and your family's gain--Bravo! I remember when you first started--as a cartoonist, right?--at the paper when it was called just that, The Paper. You were the tender age of about 18, I think. Jim and John have loved watching you blossom and mature. Best of luck to you.
Although you may consider it one of your lesser achievements, the 24 Hour Band Contest is the coolest thing I have ever participated in during my time in Santa Rosa. I cannot fully relate, as a new resident, how much of an impact it had on my Sonoma County experience. Participating in that one night (July 14, 2012) exponentially expanded my circle of friends, musical and otherwise. There I met Deborah, our wonderful singer, who convinced me to attend California Brazil Camp that summer, during which I studied and jammed with percussion masters Mauricio Zottarelli and Airto Moreira. During the contest I was also befriended by random band mates Teed, the stick master, as well as Andy G., inventor of the Slaperoo, and of course Dan, a fine drummer in his own right. You couldn't have drawn a cooler (or weirder) mix from the hats.
Thanks for all you've done to foster the good vibes in this community. May your journalistic saber remain sharp and continue to shred through The Bullshit. See ya at the record store.
May all the best new adventures involve you, Gabe and Leilani. I look forward to the Bohemian each week, both print and digital versions. You should be proud of what you've achieved. Only question is, who's going to take the helm?

Noooo!!! You will be missed!
Sad but true, as a Kaiser patient , I have already taken the precaution of seeking medical help for my heart condition OUTSIDE of America . This because Kaiser would be perfectly happy to sell my pills the rest of my shortened life, instead of doing the heart ablation that will cure me. As a former Cos reduction Manager I perfectly understand the elimination of duplicate processes and redundant activities however cutting employees is short sited, which is what cutting beds at hospitals really is.
I have a blog on this subject which is a bit more extensive of an opinion......http://womenwornoutdaily.wordpress.com/201… for those interested check out whats happening on the interwebs February 11th. https://thedaywefightback.org/
Dear Editor: President Barack Obama defended the data sweep and said the American people should feel comfortable with its collection. On Friday, after seven months of increasingly uncomfortable revelations and growing public outcry, Mr. Obama gave a speech that was in large part an admission that he had been wrong.
Americans have really gotten paranoid about their security; they're fearful of any future terrorist attacks and willing to do anything to avoid them. It's provided a tremendous boost for "Big Brother." It's in his best interests that the nations invest billions in new surveillance technology and equipment, pass new laws and become more secretive, repressive and dictatorial.
Ted Rudow III,
The West Bank is essentially imprisoned. Its one access to the outside world would be through Gaza—access through the sea, through the air, if there was an airport, and so on. By breaking Gaza from—separating Gaza from the West Bank, that undercuts whatever limited possibility there might be for a meaningful Palestinian self-determination.
these developments will continue.
Israel will keep the people in Gaza on a diet. We won’t let them starve to death; that won’t look good in the international world. We’ll just give them just enough to stay barely alive in this open-air prison. If you look at the history of South Africa, it was pretty similar. By 1960, the South Africans knew that they were becoming a pariah state. The U.S., along with Britain, was still vetoing and blocking resolutions which would call for any kind of sanctions, and supporting South African atrocities and crimes.
This is a kind of a replay of it. As long as the United States, the most powerful state in the world, continues to play its crucially supportive role, unfortunately, these developments will continue.

I wonder also about the demographic of those young people interviewed. Nationally, unemployment is lower among Whites than among African Americans/Hispanics, and the unemployment rates for the later are still in the double digits.
Well he could not approve the XL pipeline for starters.
I would like Bill to state actions Obama could take. Can he outlaw coal exports?
Than you everyone for saving the theater. A great community effort (including Zack Braff) and treasured resource.
It is refreshing to hear the voices of RNs, the actual caregivers who work at the bedside and see first-hand the impact of the decisions of those working in the corner office. Health care services are shrinking, and privatizing, and becoming more expensive and exclusive, even in the face of Obamacare. Hopefully for the rest of us, Nurses like these will lead the way to a place where health care is a human right. Go Nurses!
Thank you to the Bohemian for the continuing coverage on this story. I pray to God that Andy Lopez's family would get the attention their story deserves. The other local news media outlets coverage of this story are neither informative or noteworthy with only a few seconds of their airtime. Please continue to have coverage of any upcoming events in Andy's honor.
Thank you again.
Merle Haggard is scheduled at the Uptown theatre on December 7, 2013. This coming Saturday December 7, 2013
WE DO LIVE IN A POLICE STATE SIR.. If u think we r free in this country u r str8 retarted.
They might as well call this country Nazi America..
As a friend of Mark's, I think there are other circumstances that came to play in this terrible tragedy. There was clear and irrefutable evidence that there was drug use involved with Houston, the son. It was never well established during the trial that Houston was free of the amphetamines that he had been using, or whether or not he was experiencing withdrawals.
At this point, those factors are no doubt irrelevant. But, they are worth noting to those of us who stood on the sidelines and suffered the loss of Mark's friendship and his wonderful music. God rest you Mark --- we mourn your loss, but celebrate your life and the joy you brought to so many of us.
Thanks to today's society, video games and movies and pure ignorance... people can let their kids run around with replica assault rifles... Even when school and public shootings are becoming a almost more than a annual event. That toy was made to look exactly like a real ak-47. They make replica airsoft guns that even have real accessories on them. Now days everywhere else outside of our peaceful bubble we call America (even occasionally inside of our peacefull bubble) 12 year old boys pick up ak-47's that look exactly like Andy's toy gun and kill people. I have held, handled and operated many ak-47s including airsoft replicas and the only difference is the replicas don't go bang and shoot lethal projectiles. I would like to see all of you who slander the officer involved imagine yourself in simular situations and think what comes to mind... Your family to go home too? Your partners family to go home too? Or sit there and try to figure out when that person is going to raise their weapon and shoot you even after you gave them proper task direction to do so. Good luck with those few seconds of decion making. Unfortunately deadly force is the hardest decision to make no matter how experienced you are. Unfortunately there are plenty of cops who die because they made a different decision and waited 1 second to long and got shot to death... I guess no one or the media cares about those stories. My heart bleeds for Andy's parents and the officer who had to make that decision to shoot an innocent child and deal with that for the rest of his life. Shame on all of you folks and immature kids who live in Disney land slandering these people who protect you from all the real violence and fun things that go on right outside your border. Maybe you should go live in one of the many places where the cops actually just shoot, rape and slaughter people on a daily basis for kicks and thrills because their cartel police boss told them to do so. Back back to playing grand theft auto in your bubble.
This guy is an accident waiting to happen...............again. What is going to be next? He should be cut off from any public salary NOW! He is a liability and walking time bomb.
could we have more information about the Defense Department study and your apparent claim that the government has worked or is working to make us all more likely to kill somebody in combat? I like a lot of what you say but that paragraph seems like it could use some references.
