Re: “Letters to the Editor

Greetings....I understand that the Bohemian likes to put forward the art, poetry and writing of local North Bay folks. I would like to submit my recent book of poetry for your consideration: SNAPSHOTS: Mono no Aware here: http://www.amazon.com/Snapshots-Mono-Aware-Michael-Browne/dp/1517224853/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455231292&sr=8-1&keywords=Snapshots+%3A+Mono+no+Aware

Re: “Letters to the Editor: January 20, 2016

Thank you for publishing these excellent Letters challenging the claim that "chicken" is better for the environment than "beef." For the reasons the writers give - environmental and ethical - the truest friend of the environment will switch to delicious, nutritious animal-free food and make the slaughterhouse and all the miserable apparatus of animal production relics of the past. Thanks for publishing my letter. I forgot to add that the energy that goes into incubating male chicks in the egg laying industry isn't included in calculating the GHG footprint of eggs. That is why the GHG footprint of chickens may be higher than current official numbers present.

Elvis Costello‚Äôs solo "Detour" tour arrives on March 29 in Santa Rosa at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. Performing with guitar and piano in front of a giant television set on which are projected family photos, mysteries, mottos and other mischief, Costello sings his best known songs and the hits of tomorrow in a way that is both intimate and vividly emotional. Re: “Report from Paris

"When a hurricane wipes out a shantytown, and the science points to the cause being extravagant lifestyles of the global North, we should not be surprised if it results in cycles of terrorism and right-wing reactionary backlash."

There it is. The dumbest damn thing I've ever read. You obviously know nothing about terrorism or hurricanes. "Extravagant lifestyles of the global North" causes hurricanes? What does that even mean?

The Northern Hemisphere is where hurricanes occur, genius. Atlantic hurricanes generally form off the west coast of Africa and travel west. When's the last time a hurricane hit Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan or Paris? The only "shantytowns" even in the path of a hurricane are in the Caribbean and, the last time I checked, the Haitians weren't blowing up theaters and the Jamaicans weren't shooting up cafes.

Once again, someone who believes himself to be some sort of expert has no clue about reality. Please educate yourself before writing any more of this tripe.

"When a hurricane wipes out a shantytown, and the science points to the cause being extravagant lifestyles of the global North, we should not be surprised if it results in cycles of terrorism and right-wing reactionary backlash. Let's head that off, and work together toward a peaceful, just and climate-protected world."

This is easily the stupidest thing I've read all month. Even IF I accepted the premise that global warming was a root cause of terrorism, which is preposterous on its very face, last time I checked it isn't Haitians and Jamaicans that are exporting terrorism, and no hurricanes are leveling shantytowns in North Africa and the Middle East. Were I the Bohemian's editor, I wouldn't even have considered this for publication.

Re: “Lasting Legacy

Excellent Open Mic piece!

I concur 100 percent with each and every one of the excellent points which you have expressed therein.

And to this, I will add that we are now living in a post-Andy Lopez world where the marginalization of our disempowered youth as well as the disparagement of the neighborhoods in which they just happen to reside are no longer going to be tolerated to the unsettling degree which they were in days past.

It is my sincere hope that those who have been so deeply affected by this horrific incident will continue to speak out about the injustices which still plague us, many of which were catapulted to the forefront of the public's consciousness after Andy was gunned down.

In the meantime, let us continue to do all that we can to see to it that a park in Andy's former neighborhood - which, as of the date of October 22, 2013, had been neither conceptualized nor built, 25 years PAST the original date that it was promised the neighbors that it would be - will finally come to fruition and that it will, indeed, bear Andy's name in its official name - as it should be, and as is only fitting.

Re: “HenHouse Brewing Finds New Home in Santa Rosa

HenHouse's products are of high quality. I believe it needs to develop and go for national level. I had to complete a paper on marketing campaign for http://hireessaywriter.org/ and picked up this company. This is amazing how well they dealt with everything! There work real professionals who know exactly what they are doing.

Victor Sund:

Thank you for your excellent letter.

I concur 100% with the opinions which you have so honestly and valiantly expressed therein.

And I will further state that "mumbo-jumbo" is exactly what the powers-that-be are attempting to feed us in an effort to get us to "back off" and accept whatever environmentally misguided plan they have concocted for our portion of the beautiful California coast.

You and your fellow activists who are keeping a watchful eye on this matter have both my appreciation, gratitude - as well as my respect.

I, too, will take this opportunity to say: Expand - and strengthen - the protections which are already in place for the preservation of our precious Sonoma County coast so that its beauty will remain pristine, for today, tomorrow - and for generations yet to come.

Re: “Letters to the Editor: October 6, 2015

Dear Editor:
I am SO disappointed. A couple of weeks ago, I contacted the person who was in charge of the Java Jive Writing Contest. I believe it was through emails that we corresponded. I had not seen any advertising about the 2015 Annual Writing Contest. (I apologize, I have gone through all of my emails and can not find who I was in contact with.)I was told that they had not yet come up with a theme for the contest yet and that they would in the 10/4/15 edition of The North Bay Bohemian. He asked me if I had any suggestions and I replied to the email with "How about a ghost story?" to which he replied, "I like the ghost story idea..Be sure to check in the October 4th Bohemian for the announcement." I checked the Bohemian 2 days ago and found out that the theme was indeed Ghost story and that it was due for entry 10/7/15! I called the office today to see if that was a misprint and the reception desk girl told me it was not a misprint and that they had been advertising it for several weeks. I explained to the girl about the info I'd received previously and she was rather flippant about it and very unapologetic. I mean, come on...she could have at least said something like "I'm sorry you received the wrong information.." I guess I'll try to be more on top of things next year.

Sincerely,
Vicki Konnoff

Re: “City Winery to Leave Napa

Just came back from Nashville and that City Winery seems to be doing okay. Here's the problem with the Napa venue in my opinion. The room was okay, but you were racked and stacked like airline passengers with a mostly Napa crowd who on the night I was there (Steve Earle) didn't seem to have a clue about the music but were Wine industry social climbers there to show off how "hip" they were. Chairs were so close I could hear the heart beat of the insurance agent sitting next to me. The whole thing just felt contrived.

Re: “Letters to the Editor: September 16, 2015

Thanks to these respondents, but: (1) I was careful to start my piece by saying I have nothing against BM itself, and in fact admire much about it; (2) Yes, water pollution is bad, in fact I don't eat meat, but those are different issues; and (3) Yes, I'd bet that if BM were not occurring, there would be far less driving and air pollution. And I'm far from alone in that. Radical ecological threats require radical responses, and traveling and partying doesn't quite fit that bill. My little piece was about an event that presents tons of rhetoric about how it makes the world a better place, including via "leaving no trace" - but too much of that seems to be a bunch of hypocritical hot air - literally.

Re: “Let's Be Clear

OR
you are realistic, and see the many ILLEGAL pumps that have been put directly into the Russian River by wineries, and used to irrigate their crops - at unknown and unregulated amounts. THAT is plain and simple fact. 455 wineries are now in Sonoma County, and some richy rich 30 year old yuppie is buying up mass amounts of Sebastopol land, for his precious pinot crop, which will bring the already over stressed highway 12 to a stand still.
In case you weren't aware, we live in one of the richest and most corrupt counties in the country
