Re: “Clearing the Air

Dear Author David Templeton:
I have been trying to reach you to no-avail. As much as we all love this article and how dear to our Heart this is, Mt. Shasta Patients from Mt. Shasta California, Myself and my entire staff attended. It was sad that it was published stating Shasta Lake attended, which is Southern to Us way up here up North. I sure wish you could do a correction letter to your article. Due to our attendance we now have other facilities that are utilizing this to benefit the patients.
Thank you very Much Elizabeth Tabor CEO, Mt. Shasta Patients Collective Mt. Shasta California.

Re: “Clearing the Air

There IS research, there ARE studies, the medical uses are PROVEN. Doctors need to be re-educated in order to prescribe the right kind in the right dosage. And Marin County needs to WAKE UP and allow dispensaries to exist in this county. Shame on the Supervisors for kicking this can to the curb, again.

Re: “Everything but the Anarchists

Thank you for your comment, Mr. Hines; I found out more about what motivates the Oath Keepers from you, than I did from the actual article. Bridging the divide, indeed.

It would be interesting to see some investigative reporting on all the people who voted for Trump, that had previously voted for Obama. They'd be harder to track down as they're not "fringe" and don't hold meetings...I suggest starting with the most enthusiastic Bernie supporters. That's where Mr. Gogola might find his ideological vertex.

Re: “Everything but the Anarchists

It's regrettable your experience was negative. If it's like mine have been, I suspect the source of difficulty had more to do with the participant's concerns over having their comments used to vilify the group as part of some propaganda campaign. They tend to be naive on how to effectively communicate their concerns. The Oath Keepers have been regularly attacked by the MSM since their beginning and it's made a lot of them jumpy.

An over simplification, these folks are used to working with their hands more than their minds. What they lack in sophistication, they make up for with intentions and idealistic interpretation of the Constitution. Far from fascists, they want folks to hold themselves to a personal standard, rather than have the government tell them what they can and cannot do. Folks telling them they have to do something or can't do something is about as welcome as a kick to the teeth. They would rather come to these conclusions themselves, as they typically do, on a daily basis in their work. If you think about it, what they don't appreciate, it isn't much different than them coming up and asking you to stop doing your job.

That's what makes their situation so difficult. They've been attacked in the press to the point they have grown defensive and this has them going against what they stand for. That said, when things get difficult (Ferguson), they drop the defensiveness and go to work, risking their lives to stand between the "bad guys" and the innocent. These are simple folks with an internal moral compass, whether it's "Faith in God" and/or the Constitution, who take offense at people who don't know them, who don't care to know them, telling them how they have to live and attacking them every time they don't use the acceptable Politically Correct methods of expressing themselves.

Thank you for trying to reach out and understand the Oath Keepers. Please know they are not racists, sexist or authoritarian, but rather concerned, frustrated and a bit fed-up with being held to a standard that elected members of the Federal government seems to have a difficult time meeting.

Re: “Stark Raving

My opinion about this article was to get to see new perspective what actually owner mean to own a restaurant. I like the fact that they said: "We're not here to make money," "We're here to make friends." It seems like all the owner should think about the beneficial and quality to serve for clients, but I guess they think "friends" is the first priority to connected with the restaurant. Also, Stark Family supporting with the local food to provide a customer with an organic food, and make farmer into the restaurant business.

Re: “A Singular Experience

Thanks, Anylocalsleft. The story has clarified to reflect the history of the building.

Re: “A Singular Experience

Having direct knowledge of the situation, I know developer Tony Greenberg was withholding payments for months prior Behler Construction's lien. Mr. Greenberg has various issues with the subcontractors that have balances due, and thus final payment cant be made to these subcontractors until these items are resolved. All of the other subcontractors and suppliers have been paid in full for their work on the project. The story doesnt mention that liens were also filed by Babcock Floors, Conklin Bros of Santa Rosa, Alan Gale (Alpha Fire), and RLA Sheet Metal. There is even Certificate of Lien from the Sonoma County Tax Collector.

Re: “A Singular Experience

One note of correction, the building itself was NOT the post office, it burned down mysteriously, in order for the new building to be built, which was a major point of contention with locals.

Way to bring this to the attention of those of us who've yet to experience Single Thread, I saw @thefoodofelan posted about this on Instagram, during his visit. Says they should get a 2 Michelin Star. Sounds yummy.

Re: “Downstream

Regarding the Feb. 22 State Water Board meeting in Sacramento to decide whether to certify the Elk River TMDL, the minutes for that item read:
"PULLED DEFERRED TO FUTURE BOARD MEETING".
I don't suppose that's good for the cause. Great in-depth article on an important local issue.

Re: “The Watchdog

Not everybody is a "coward" that comments about the Sheriff, without showing up at the meetings. For instance, I want to comment here, but Bohemian makes me create an account, with passwords. I am sick of new accounts and passwords just to comment. Another reason for not attending meetings, I live in Sonoma, and the City Council meetings drone on for hours, with public comment restricted until the end, and the Council members grow weary of hearing from their constituents, and cut comment off. I have seen people that wanted to comment get up and leave, because of delays. IMO, this is voter suppression, as far as inclusive democracy, as we have no voice, except when they allow it, on their time. This city cares about wine and tourists, nothing else. Love Sonoma, hate the newbie carpetbagger richies that see our town as something to exploit for their profit, with their enablers, the C of C, Visitors Bureau and City Council, all thick as thieves.

Re: “From Company Town to Rebel City

Only got around to reading this only recently, it got lost in my bookmarks. Excellent! I remember the remarkable win despite Chevron millions in 2014, but didn't know the rest of the story. Thanks for this.

Re: “The Watchdog

This was surprising to read. The Board has always seemed to say they have no policy authority over the Sheriff:

"My own personal view of it is the government code does give the board of supervisors supervisorial authority over sheriffs, and that it's rarely exercised."

As it stands it seems the only thing the Sheriff is currently doing that the Board of Supervisors may have issue with is voluntary notice of release date being given to immigration. They do not honor 48 hour hold requests unless accompanied by a court order, in fact it now seems it has been found unlawful to honor hold requests unless they come with a court order.
