Re: “The Straight Dope

just started using a CBD tincture 3:2 cbd:THC and it works amazinggggggggg on anxiety and SAD and an overactive mind. 1 squirt which cost about 50 cents works for 8 hours totally worth finding at your local dispensary or if you live in California you can have them mail it to you

Re: “The Straight Dope

In case you didn't read the actual patent you are referencing, Saavy, it does not patent cannabis, but patents research towards a specific delivery system of isolated cannabinoid molecules (and the patent has since expired). And while I do find it wholly disingenuous of the Fed Govt to classify cannabis as a Schedule I drug while behind the curtain it (in conjunction with pharmaceutical companies) funds research into cannabis' medical properties , this is not news. Just look at the disaster known as Marinol.

I'm just curious: Exactly what statement(s) in the article inspired you to make the claim that it is proto-Feds/Big Pharma?

Re: “Pinot, Poverty and Politics

Thanks for a great story on a very important topic. Keeping in mind that with the shockingly low wages for picking grapes and the fact that many of these workers are exploited and endangered with poor working conditions, lack of adequate shade and water and few job protections, another solution to the lack of low income housing is the use of union jobs and union contracts which bring with them a voice at work, safety standards, health care and decent wages. Paying good middle class wages is the best way to allow people to afford housing, so they don't have to live 3 or 4 families to an apartment or drive two hours to get to work. The people and especially the wine growers in Napa can't complain about low income housing if they don't pay living wages. If they aren't willing to pay decent wages they should be building housing that workers can afford. They can't count on taxpayers to subsidize the wine industry with roads, schools, housing and infrastructure while they make huge profits by exploiting workers.

Re: “The Straight Dope

This article reads like it is greasing the wheels for the Federal Govt. and the BigPharma. Melinda, do you have any knowledge of this patent? http://lookingglass.blog.co.uk/2012/02/19/the-curious-case-of-patent-number-12825157/

Re: “Stud in the Mud

Most people working as "driller or oiler upon a drill rig," get paid above average in benefits and wages. Some work offshore. They are fit from day one. We are called Operating Engineers Local #3 members. We are paid to dress up for the mud and come home complete. We create high-rises, tunnels, railway lines, highways, waterways, levees. Thanks for trying to imitate us without the paycheck.

Re: “Stark Raving

I really enjoyed reading the claims of the owners of its employees able to buy housing while employed in "the best dining" in Sonoma County. This is a "good business." And the reputation for fresh and quality service delivers. Thank you Stark family.

Wonderful piece, Scott! I really enjoyed reading it. So much gratifying fun behind reading a good, published piece by someone I remember fondly.

She marched with King? SFW! That doesn't enshrine her, just shows her political preference. She can go to SS and get a new card. Just more hand wringing from the politically correct. How long has this woman had to straighten out her lack of I.D.?

Re: “Creative Parenting

Avoid Genetically Modified Food GMOs if you want to carry your baby to term!
Some of the GMO corn is a registered pesticide. Also, the special weedkiller that they are designed to be drenched with, kills fetal cells and causes spontaneous abortions.

Children having allergies and bowel discomfort may be reacting to GMOs.
Here's a short segment of a longer video about allergies:

Re: “Sneak Attack

Can someone please enlighten me as to why having an ID shouldn't be required by law? In the majority of countries around the world a valid ID is required to participate in all government programs, to vote and to receive government welfare. I'll give the 93-year old adopted lady who lost her purse a break, but why are so many young people whatever their ethnicity/race and economic background without a valid ID? I'll tell you the biggest reason... because they don't make it down to the DMV. I am not convinced that requiring IDs is a bad thing. Yes, it was a sneak attach by the right for this election and yes it screwed a lot of people out of voting, but go get a damn ID already. You shoulda done it when they told us about the law 6 months ago.

Re: “Stud in the Mud

Soooo.... am totally a secret admirer of the author, especially after the 5-10 minutes I spent loving this piece more and more ;-) All the g*damn good ones are married. great, well written piece that makes you want to follow this author and join the fanclub. love the realistic, no bullshit writing style, yet still humorous (well hilarious, actually) and optimistic.

It even made me want to do the next one. If you knew me, (the lazy, weakling ass self I am I think you would have a lot of respect for Scott and his piece. Lol. Good job to everyone who did that hell on earth activity and didnt die!

YES!!!!! While I'm still never going to run a Tough Mudder (the words 'Burning Man' are enough to keep me far, far away), I applaud the hell out of you for tackling this challenge with the sole motivator of getting to write about the misery later. ;)
