Re: “Fork in the Road

This is our neighborhood spot and we are so happy that Fork is moving in. We have loved them in their downtown location and feel so lucky to have them as our new go to for casual food dining. This location might have been "cursed" in the past, but Sarah's casual, delicious, clean and affordable food will turn that around.
Good luck Sarah.

Damn good and they have it at Whiskey Tip in Santa Rosa, CA! Best Cocktails in town.

Re: “Bowled Over

Serving organic chicken doesn't strike me as remarkable.

Re: “Bowled Over

how can you call ORGANIC chicken in a restaurant 'unremarkable'?! If you're so jaded and bored, try another profession! :)

Re: “So You Wanna Hunt Mushrooms?

Other than that specious speculation on the mycelial transfer of toxins between adjacent fungi, this is an excellent and informative article.

But SOMA and the MSSF are just part of the spectrum of Mycological Societies in California. Check out the full list here, at the website of the North American Mycological Association (NAMA): http://namyco.org/clubs/index.html#C

One prominent local society, the Bay Area Mycological Society (BAMS), puts on a free Fungus Fair and public collecting foray every winter at Pt. Reyes. Our next Fungus Fair date is our tenth anniversary at that National Park, and will be held on the weekend of January 4th.

All are welcome to contribute collections and attend the Fair.

Re: “Free Beer

Omission beer is more than slightly controversial. Despite the posted test results on the Omission website, the reason that it cannot be labeled gluten-free is because the gluten content cannot be verified - the test they use is not scientifically validated for this type of use. The regulatory agencies (FDA and TTB) have spent quite a bit of time researching the topic before coming to that conclusion. Scientists and doctors recommend that people with celiac disease avoid Omission beer. However, media stories like this one give the impression that it's just a regulatory quirk that it cannot be labeled gluten-free and that it's actually safe for everyone. Re: “Fork in the Road

I love the food they offer from the truck. I send all good luck to them at the new spot. It is a great little location they just need a draw = good food for affordable prices. We will be there when it opens!

Re: “Better Bitters

Angostura aromatic bitters has never changed its formula. This is a very wrong statement that should not have been made!

Re: “Soup Ninjas

YeeHaw! It's great to hear of another ramen place in the Redwood Empire, even if it's a bi-monthly pop up (sounds like a low-T problem, but I who am I to bad-mouth a good slurpping opportunity).

But, the "ramen injustice" you cited may be more about a lack of wandering than a lack of ramen. So, here's hoping to start a list:

1) Shige, Cotati, his absolutely outstanding ramen, and bright, cut right, sushi too.

2) Yao Kiku in Santa Rosa has good ramen, at real good prices, and a broad menu of other Japanese food.

Now you go...give two more or I wont give you another....

P.S. Don't feel bad about missing the other places. The PD's bite club actually complained that there weren't enough pho places in Sonoma County, and we have more noodle houses than non-corporate burger joints.

Re: “Rot Is Hot

I'm so excited to go to the Farm to Fermentation festival this Sunday and learn how to make a variety of new fermented products at home!

Re: “Bigger & Better

Had an amazing oceanic dinner there recently: oysters, soft shell crab, sole, and briny martinis. They did Poseidon proud!

It's the only place I purchase my meat from. It's worth every penny. The sandwiches are fantastic too!!!

Re: “Delectations of Empire

I'll take that place around the corner. At least they don't trash the other establishments.

Re: “Delectations of Empire

When did Mac and Cheese multiply like rabbits in every hip place across the country? When did rich people start eating poor people food? It's a cheap starch worth a nickel and sold for ten dollars.

Re: “Secret Cookie Man

ZIX Cookies are dynamite! They will blast your taste buds to heaven. When you want cookies for really special treats, they are the ones to buy. Some people love them because they are gluten-free. I love them because they are incredibly tasty.
