Re: “Of Water and Wine

Great article. Thank you Stett, for writing it and for publishing it in the Bohemian. I live on a hillside in the Napa Valley about a mile from the proposed Calistoga Hills Resort. A neighbor of mine cleared many acres of beautiful hillside forest and planted vineyard in its place. The chainsaws, tractors, and excavators were operating at all hours and days of the week on and off over several years time. The county and the state have no issue with a clear-cut like this, and I don't think he is done yet as there are still some trees left on his property. I wonder how many more "conversions" will be taking place on the hills of this county, since there is no agency that restrains greedy owners from cutting all the trees on a property.

Re: “Of Water and Wine

This is exactly why big wine money wants to elect Hopkins; to continue their push onto our remaining hillsides and coastal hillsides. Come on Sonoma county, get out from behind your I-phones and help elect Noreen Evans. It's not "Imagine if she wins" we need you in the streets talking to your neighbors and fighting for what's at stake here.

Re: “Of Water and Wine

Though there are problems in Napa, they seem far ahead of Sonoma County in reigning in the over-growth of the wine industry, and thus preserving food farming and rural diversity. That's why Napa vintners such as Paul Hobbs and Joe Wagner are moving some of their operations out of Napa and into Sonoma County and beyond. For more information, go to www.winewaterwatch.org

Re: “Crude Awakening

With a weak coastal commission and a big business dominated Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, Noreen Evans will help effectively push back Big Oil and Big Wine and Big real estate. Take back our coast and save our environment.

Re: “Crude Awakening

This article reveals yet another reason for electing environmentalist Noreen Evans as the 5th District Supervisor. She would be more able to stand up to Big Oil and its damage to the environment, including the climate, as well as to Big Wine. It is our habitat that provides jobs, not the corporations that rape nature.

Re: “Toxic Redux?

Do you trust the Sonoma County tourism industry?....Do you remember last years outbreak and those that entered during the R.R. Blues and Jazz festival?...And the concurent "Valley Fire."....Too many were not informed of the Russian River as non-potable and prior canine deadly.

Re: “Howard Wales with Terry Haggerty and Kevin Hayes

Just added: Ian McKenzie: Acoustic slide guitar and vocals.
Ian is the guitarist for the Pulsators and is branching out on a solo project. He'll be playing blues and folk: Jimmy Reed, John Prine, Elmore James and some originals. Should be a fun night!

Re: “Free Speech Radio

Why should Sebastopol donate an antenna site that is outside town and makes the neighbors furious. There are other alternatives that KOWS has available without enraging the neighbors. Most radio stations I listen to care about their public image more than blowing wind to their listeners who are mostly the other hobby radio moderators.

Maybe they hope to add some cell towers which are now known to be carcinogenic.

Re: “Comeback Cab

As an added plus, the estate vines are also organic...And the estate Cab wine got rave reviews from Wine & Spirits! I think the Cab is GORGEOUS. Restrained, lovely.

Re: “Free Speech Radio

Shepherd, Thanks for posting this!

I agree, let's keep people focused on how 'good' we are!

I don't know what the rest Sebastopol or businesses will think if they find out we're gaining public land, indefinitely, for $1 dollar a year!

Fingers crossed!

Re: “Troubled Tenants

Aren't these the same people who will protest EVERY low income housing development proposed? Without an income/means test, how do we know stabilizing the rent benefits only poor people? I personally have welcomed all new housing projects in San Rafael, being a lone voice in the NIMBY wilderness. I agree with paying a living wage as partially addressing the issue, encouraging builders to included below market rent units for those families below the HUD median also helps. But taking the ability to generate market revenue away from the housing providers will not encourage more apartments or condos or single family homes from being made available, it never has.
