Re: “One by One

Great article Stephen - The Sonoma OFA grows stronger everyday.

OFA welcomes volunteers, there is much work left to do. We need help making phone calls to supporters in Republican districts, tabling for signature petitions, writing letters to the editor, and visiting Mike Thompson's office. If you want to make a difference email Linda Hemenway whatisworking@gmail.com

Re: “Beaver Fever

Beaver value to streams and habitat is becoming better understood. Their impact on coho and bird life is just the beginning. Folks interested in learning more about their effect and managing their many challenges should come to Martinez for the 6th annual beaver festival in August.

Namaste to you! I see the stars are crossed in the dates above, let me clarify. The training begins on Oct 11, not Oct 4. You can call me if you want a tour of the Yoga & Meditation and want to talk about the training. Gayatri 707- 239- 3650

Re: “Wrung Dry

My name is Bob Daddi, I am a director of Ojai FLOW. We are in the process of removing our For-Profit-Water company. They have sued to stop an election for a Bon that will allow to us purchase and remove them, Please go to the OjaiFLOW web and contact us if we can give you any help. The only answer is to have elected CPUC members, not appointed. Call your Senator and Assembly person and ask for support, they should have a vested intrest.

Okay but just average. Pricey without excellent service. Taste just not there.

Re: “Tipsy-Turvy

I absolutely believe that tipping your wine host/hostess is appropriate. Having worked in the industry, I know that the hardworking folks with smiles, knowledge and a bottle in their hand are doing everything to get you as excited about the wines as they are - for $12 an hour. One would be foolish to not recognize that an average Denny's employee is likely bringing in more income (not to denigrate Denny's employees by any means). If a wine steward gets you feeling the rush of history, fruit and the passion going into a wine that demands you have some for yourself, reciprocation is in order. No question.

Re: “Surveillance State

Blessed are the whistle-blowers, for they disclose and denounce injustice and evil in the world.

More than two thousand years ago, a whistle-blower Jewish rabbi named Yeshua from Nazareth publicly denounced the religious theocracy of his time. Seriously threatened and undermined, the then religious establishment persecuted and had the Jewish whistle-blower killed. The world did that then, it still does now.

Bring them (B. Manning and E. Snowden) home.

Re: “Surveillance State

Now that Congress has been schooled in what's really going on at the NSA, maybe they'll get off their asses and do something. That is of course the congressional body is tech savvy enough to ask the right questions. From early reports, the crash course of Domestic Spying for Dummies conducted behind closed doors was enough to piss a few folks off. Thats a start!

Re: “We Are Family?

Where I work in WA. WDS starts at 11 an hour and we work about 2 6 hr days a week. More before a holiday. The only benefit we get is 401K after a year. However we make so little we can't afford to put anything in it. Supposed to get a .25 raise after a year, but they gave me the shaft. been there almost 2 years and got only .15 cent raise. They get paid $155 plus supplies for a demo. They could at least give us a free membership like they give the Costco employees. Separate but equal. We ain't equal.

Re: “Moving Forward

To Reply to Ethan:

These are great questions, which are easily answered:

"Whats is the source of renewable energy?"
It depends on what they can negotiate, but will be at least 33% renewable, and could be as high as 100% renewable if you want pay whatever that 100% renewable rate will be. RECs will be used to supplement this -- renewable energy credits from clean energy projects around the country. These are the same credits PG&E likes to brag about using, except SCP will be using them as a bridge to local renewable energy.

"How are we promoting "Go Local" by purchasing energy from out of state multi-national companies… How are we decreasing our carbon footprint through supporting companies with some of highest reported negative environmental externalities?"
The BEST part about Sonoma Clean Power is that the ratepayer money over the years will be invested to both improve local energy efficiency and create local energy projects, which is way above and beyond what any other CCA is going on around the country. PG&E definitely doesn't do this.

These local energy projects will create:
Local jobs
Local energy security
A buffer between us and rising and falling prices of the energy market, which is HUGE.

Do a web search for FAQ and Sonoma Clean Power to find their pdf that addresses a lot of this stuff.

Re: “Moving Forward

The questions being asked by the people remains the same.....

Whats is the source of renewable energy?
Only 1 out of the four companies generates renewable energy - NRG

How are we promoting "Go Local" by purchasing energy from out of state multi-national companies?

How are we decreasing our carbon footprint through supporting companies with some of highest reported negative enviromental externalities? How are we going to internalize these negative externalities?

Re: “Direct Deposit

Much praise to the author of this article, and much more to Marc Armstrong and Ellen Brown of the public banking Institute for starting this long overdue movement. Since I believe Dante was right that the worst places in hell are reserved for those with knowledge who do not act, if everyone reading this will offer to do a houseparty or otherwise donate themselves some volunteer time or a $100 (and those at the house party in turn team up with others to generate more house parties two or three weeks later, so each round of parties keeps doubling or tripling, we'll have enough money and volunteer power to make this happen. It could be great fun too if everyone brings a poem or copies of a song or a tasteful joke, etc. I'm volunteering today, and Hope you too will be writing marc@publicBankingInstitute.org.

This is, actually, not the first time "The Sound of Music" has been performed at the Mountain Play. I saw it there in 1985! Maybe you need a new fact checker.
