If the police would stop militarizing and end the Drug War I'd bet there would be much better relations with the public. The shame of this is that I was raised at a place in time where we all knew the local cop and he was regarded as a friend and we were glad to see him, even the one who came to "arrest" my grandfather for biting some guy's ear off in a barroom brawl. Actually he picked a time to show up when he knew Merle wouldn't be there so he could just sort of warn him to clear out of the county for a spell. Alcohol and violence, same as it ever was. If we just had common sense drug education for ALL drugs and proper treatment with a number of psychoactive drugs that are now illegal we would see plummeting rates of addiction to all drugs including alcohol. And cops would once again be your buddy Steve instead of Robocop.
