I would like to applaud the Bohemian for being just about the only media outlet to cover this issue in detail. I am a Cal Water customer in Lancaster (Antelope Valley). Cal Water has a small pocket of 700 homes in our area. If I lived a quarter mile in any direction, I would have public water at 1/3rd the cost. We pay $150 for the same amount of water that others pay $50 for in our area. We already pay on average 2.4% of our median income for water, yet Cal Water is proposing a 60% rate increase. We also are outraged that we pay for water that we do not use. One fourth of our bills are WRAM charges. Despite having conserved 25% over the last 4 years, we cannot reduce our water bills because we continue to pay for water we did not use. Cal Water is assured of getting its money whether it pumps water or not. Kirsten of AV Residents for Reasonable Water Rates
