.Feb. 5: Meklit Hadero at Osher Marin JCC

Getting lost in the headphones was never so easy. Born in Ethiopia, the singer Meklit Hadero grew up in Brooklyn before moving to San Francisco to study political science. Luckily, someone convinced her to drop out of college, because her voice is a greater force for good than any Robert Dahl text could hope to be. With the richness of Nina Simone but the intimacy of Jolie Holland, Hadero’s phrasing feels like a conversation with a good friend and a couple of lowballs. With a new album, On a Day Like This, she’s taken NPR by storm; she also stays connected to social issues in her work. Catch her on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center. 200 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael. 8pm. $22-$26. 415.444.8000.
