.Feb. 5: ‘New Life at Sturgeon’s Mill’ in Sebastopol

Sturgeon’s Mill is a working mill that sawed its first redwoods in 1914, and a group of preservationists in Sonoma County are hoping to restore it and keep it open to the public as a museum dedicated to early logging. Located on Green Hill Road, it’s really quite a site, redolent of all those burl- and sawblade-scattered roadside stops in Humboldt County, and it deserves restoration. To that end, a documentary film called ‘New Life at Sturgeon’s Mill’ has been made, and concurrently, the West County Museum opens its new exhibit, “Logging in Western Sonoma County.” It’s like Sebastopol all of a sudden digs cutting down trees! See the film on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Sebastopol Veterans’ Auditorium. 282 S. High St., Sebastopol. 4pm. Free. 707.829.6711.
