Aug. 28: Meklit Hadero at the Mystic Theatre

Apparently, this Yale graduate can equally master both political science and positively seductive jazz. Lauded for her artful dabbling in traditional folk and East African sounds, the Ethiopian-born Meklit Hadero can sit pretty with a Billie Holiday–esque flower in her hair, open her mouth and melt the crowd. Aug. 27: Taste of Petaluma in Downtown Petaluma

Taste of Petaluma offers the possibility, with samples from over 40 of the town’s finest chefs and wineries. August 20-21: Wings Over Wine Country at Pacific Air Coast Museum

It’s that time of year again—Sonoma County takes flight with Wings Over Wine Country, the annual air show hosted by the Pacific Coast Air Museum. Kids and adults alike become captivated at this local tradition of loop-de-loops and fancy dives. August 20: Northern California Bicycle Expo. at Santa Rosa City Hall

Bike power! Bikes for sale, new bike trails, a guided ride and even bike-themed earrings can be found at the second annual Northern California Bicycle Expo. Add in food, brew, live music and fun kids’ activities, and you have it all. Show up at 8:30am to mingle on the guided 10-mile ride, or come later for the rest of the activities.
