Re: “Alt Turkey

Well said, Anna. I have never, ever craved the taste of bacon and was deeply offended by the writer's note: "And here is how to make tofu taste like bacon: cook it with bacon." If your writer isn't aware of WHY most vegetarians/vegan don't eat meat, they need to talk to a few. Most of us don't eat it because we cannot bear the thought of harming another living being so to say that we'll melt in ignorant bliss is extremely offensive and disrespectful.

Please educate yourself before offering advice to others.

And one last thing -I can only speak for myself here- and I know it's difficult to believe, but I don't pine for bacon-ever. After not eating it for a few years, i lost the acquired taste/smell for it. Now it smells to me something like a pig-sty with the accompanying smell of excrement, or for lack of a better phrase-"pig-ass", sort of like how one can taste the gaminess of wild animals. Yes-an acquired taste for bacon is an acquired taste for pig-smell. Ew.

Re: “Alt Turkey

Ari Levaux's bacon jokes are about as inspiring and new as the Tofurkey they malign, as is the insipid recipe for "tofu bacon" that is proffered. If the writer themself states "In my experience, the vegetarians and vegans are often the best cooks in the room.", then why wouldn't the Bohemian have an actual vegetarian/vegan provide alternative ideas to the roast non-beast? I mean really, roasted vegetables-gasp! How novel. Or frying tofu with garlic, onion, (honey isn't vegan) paprika and soy sauce?! Genius! (Pro-tip, add a drizzle of some toasted sesame oil or better yet, make a marinade with a dash of liquid smoke. Next-level tip, get some episote and throw that in your marinade) Seriously, Bohemian. Quit treating vegetarian/vegan fare as a joke.
