Re: “Grow-Site Pain

Friends of Graton was not happy to be ignored for this article, but in Tom's defense he did offer us the OpenMic in the next issue of the Bohemian which comes out Wednesday, a day after the Supervisors hearing. Since we are not sure of the status of the project until we hear if there will possibly be a revision or a new project, we have decided to wait to make comment until that time. You are correct, Dian, that what you have described is the current proposed project.

Re: “Grow-Site Pain

I'm sure it was deadline pressure that prevented Tom Gogola from contacting our group, Friends of Graton (FOG) before submitting this very one-sided article on the proposed Graton cannabis project. I'm mystified about how Mr. Gogola knows what FOG is or is doing. He never spoke with anyone in our group. Instead, he relied on a defamatory letter with cherry-picked quotes sent him by the father of the applicants for a cannabis facility -- who certainly cannot be considered unbiased. After all, we are opposing their project.

He also appears confused. FOG is an organization. It has members. Online comments on chat sites by anyone and everyone, which Mr Gogola sprinkles throughout his article, are not reflective of FOG or of FOG's position. He is clearly not differentiating between our group and various people who speculate about issues about which they clearly know next to nothing.

We've studied the plans and sent our concerns to the planner and the Supervisors, just as any citizen is expected to do when something threatens his or her community. We look at the Conditional Use permit as the guiding document, not public relations pieces or statements put out by the applicants. Use permits run with the land. Loud Enterprises could be selfless saints all, but they could also sell. Then we'd be stuck with an inappropriately-located facility right next to the West County Trail and family homes. Every single resident of this street is opposed to this project. We have 540 signatures on a petition opposing it and an email list of over 600 people. Doesn't Tom think it's worth talking with us before he writes?

The Bohemian has done some excellent investigative stories in the past. This one-sided smear falls far short of your standards.
